Waiting to hear from the vet...

Many of you know I lost my beloved 18 year-old kitty Patsy back in May. That was really tough. Well, my husband's border collie is almost eleven years old. He hasn't been eating much the last couple of days, so I took him to the vet this morning. They drew blood but I opted to have the sample sent out to a lab because it was cheaper that way than having them run it at the hospital. Boy, am I paying now!

I am supposed to hear from them tomorrow. They didn't find anything obviously wrong like with Patsy's cancer, but he IS an old dog and I am worried. Mostly I'm worried about my husband and how he's going to do if something's really wrong. Dusty's decline is inevitable and possibly impending. I feel like I need to prepare myself in some way, you know? Please keep us all in your prayers! Thanks!

Love :kitty: and hugs :puppy:,
Eddie

Eddie, Toby and I will be saying a prayer for Dusty. It's just too sad when we have to let them go, I can't even imagine how it would be with two so close together. I'm sorry, Eddie, and I hope it's nothing serious.

Hugs
Ann

Eddie, Your dog may just be feelin a little ill or something. They can have bad stretches, or catch something like the flu (my cat had it once) just like people. You probably know that though. But it's scary when you think they are sick. Does your dog act like he/she? is in any type of pain? Pain wll do that. The vet told me that animals do not show pain, until it's real bad, then it can show itself in all sorts of forms.
We had to put down our beloved german shepard this past Feb. it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Funny just how much those animals are a part of our live, and just like a member of the family. But the vet said big dogs like ours have a "normal" life span of 12 years. Our dog was 15 or 16. The doc also said he was still in excellent shape, other than the terrible arthritis he had in his hips. He suffered with that for about 5 years. We even had him treated by a Chiropractor. That helped for a couple visits, but his spine was so full of arthritis, that the bones were fusing together. He was on anti-inflamitory meds for all those years. But they REALLY helped his quality of life.
I will say an extra prayer for your dog. It may just be the heat?? Or just something that will pass soon...
Let us know........ Lots of Love, Becky

Thank you, Chy, Becky, Indie, and Cheryl!!

Twelve years is about what I'd expect for a border collie and he's almost eleven. He does have some arthritis in his back and hips, too. I'm sorry about your shepherd, Becky. They truly are family members!

Love and hugs,
Eddie
