Welcome to SR Vic.

I'm Brett, an alcoholic as well. Look forward to reading your posts. We have a Forum here for Alcoholics Anonymous threads as well if your interested. I would enjoy catching up with you in Chatroom sometime soon.

Hello. My names Vic Im an Alcoholic.

Hi there Trish,

Let me introduce myself properly, basicly Im still suffering with this damn illness having made two half hearted attempt to get to grips with AA and failed miserably due to my weakness, you see thats the problem, drinkings brilliant at taking away my own personal weakness, which is stress,or fear of confrontations either verbally or mannerisms like to cause offence.

I actually enjoy the effects of the stuff(dont we all)..but Its effecting my sleep now and causing me to have the shakes if I go more than 3 days without.

Just cannot get to grips with meeting, despite the feeling of being amonst my own, does this make sense?

Yes Vic, it makes sense. I struggled for a long time myself and have not had a drink for a while now.The disease by it's very nature, does not want us to get well.I myself, attend AA as my means of recovery, but I didnt win until I surrendered, keep coming back and keep posting.Recovery is possible,Bless.

Hi,
This is my first time to write. I'm not sure if I am an alcoholic, but I guess if I have doubts that probably I am.

How does this site work? What can I expect?

Hi Maggie,

This site works as a message board where people post messages and others respond. It's a fairly busy place and you'll find lots of support and inspiration here. You're right, in that if you wonder if you're alcoholic, then you may very well be. That's a decision you will have to make yourself. Take a look around and get some information.

There is also a chat room and online meetings.

Thanks Anna,
Where do I find the chat rooms and online meetings. IS AA the first step and the first place to look? After I admit I have a problem and decide to be sober.

Hi Maggie,

To find chat and online meetings you go to the main page of SR and scroll down till you find the topic 'Miscellaneous'. You can then find Chat and Online Meetings. I'm not an AA girl but I know it works well for a lot of people. There's lots of information here and lots of ideas. The main thing is to not drink today. Take small steps because it can truly be overwhelming to think of never drinking again. Keep visitng!

Love, Anna

Hi maggie45, AA is a great place to start. It got this hopless drunk sober. It saved my life. There is a link to the chat room at the top of the page on the tool bar. Just register using your same username and password. There is a schedule of online meetings if you click on Beginners and newcomers to addiction and recovery above. It's a sticky note. Click on it and it will give you the days and time. You may want to look into AA meetings in your area. If you need help finding anything else, just holler.
