Question about recovery

How long had you been clean and sober before the "real" work on your recovery began? Like really digging and working thru the issues that contributed to the using. It is hard at the beginning with w/d, but I want to dig in and start working on me so I can heal.

I don't want to be in the "dry" stage. I want to really recover.

Please share your experience, strength, and hope.

after my last relapsed...that day
I started reading and writng right off the bat.
I was in a fog still and of my writing didn't make sense
and I had a hard time focusing anyways.
but i had program in me.
I knew I had to do start doing the foot work or get into a habit
of doing it.

I wasn't court sent or went to a rehab
over six months when I first came into recovery.
it took me that long to just get 90 days.
I was still testing the water doing the 90 in 90.
Once I acomplished that , I proceeded to doing the steps.
I couldn't comprehend what the steps ment in the first six months anyways.
I got a sponsor that did of these....which kind of confussed me at first.
" your are going to work on step 1 for a year"

Then later as I stay longer in the program
I strated hearing
" the only step you gatta work correctly is the first one"

Acceptence for me can be very, very hard.
Accepting that I'm and alki/addict wasn't easy.
It was a foundation that my sponsor wanted me to have and build
my recovery upon. He kept re-stating it over and over again.
"you need to build a solid foundation first"

I got drunk/high on a good day or a bad day.
It didn't matter how I felt.
I love getting high
I got high no matter what

Yes, I do understand about emotional sobriety.
"first things first"

Ask your Sponser to Take you thru- the Big Book-Steps

The Big Book has Clear cut directions
that will lead to Emotional Sobriety.

I also Also Picked up a 12 & 12 and went to Big Book Study and 12 & 12 Studys

i believe i began when i first made that big 3 step prayer" god help me i cant keep doing this"-day 1

as i went thru sponsors and steps and service and meetings, it became possible for me to listen to K when he appeared in my recovery. [it may also have 'helped' that i was recovering from near death motorcycle accident- did a LOT of reading/writing]

meeting that ol biker did begin the deepest work- was in my 13th month of recovery.

Smile

For me, like others, the work began on day 1--the day I surrendered and asked for help. You may not see it, Hope, but I believe your work has already begun as well. Remember the misery of your last high and stay strong in your conviction to have a better, drug-free life!

Love and hugs--
