day 1. not to sure what im looking for here. been in and outta detox and programs since 1998. got no friends...nor support...i guess thats why im here. i am a recovering alcoholic and cocaine addict, clean for 5 yrs, but cant get off the oxys now. seems i jump from one to another...you all seem so supportive with your words. i hope i can get past this false reality (how oxys make me feel) and start dealing with the real world.
congrats on the fellow with 16 yrs in. gives me hope.

Congratulations to all of those posting who are celebrating being clean. You must feel proud!! Finally, huh? To those posting (like me) who are still considering the change, and finding themselves, hang in there. If these folks can do it, I feel I can too.
Please keep your support coming.

36 days, I think???? I am so happy about my keytag and the best part about it was my husband went with me. First time he has evergone with me and he said he actually enjoyed it. So that was a good thing!
Tat,
Oxys are BRUTAL, SEDUCTIVE AND MISLEADING. I know the pain you are going through, and I hope what I can share today will help you get through it a little easier. I was in the the program for quite some time, then developed chronic pain, for which I was prescribed oxycontin. I took them as directed...and guess what?? Found myself in the throws of addiction all over again!! Gawd...how frustrating.
First things first. Do NOT try to give these up cold turkey without the aid of detox, they do have hard withdrawal effects, similiar to herione.
Secondly, remember that the worst of this will be over in 10 days. For those first few days, you will feel like death...unfortunately, there is no easy way out of this addiction. My advice to you at this time is this:
Treat the symptoms of your withdrawal with NON NARCOTIC meds, in moderation. You will feel like you have a severe flu. Use Motrin for the fever, use Neo Citron for the sneezing, achiness etc. (USE THESE ONLY AS DIRECTED).
Also, vitamen E is a good one to take, along with lots of water. This helps your system detox faster.
ABOVE ALL: Be gentle with yourself through this time, and know that each day you hurt is one day closer to the day of freedom where you don't. Yes, it's hard, and my heart goes out to you.
I am just now starting to feel human again, and I've been working on giving this up for over a week now.
Fortunately, I've got enough program in me to know three things that make doing this possible:
a) Each sober day, things get better.
b) HP is holding my hand, even when I'm trying to let go of his.
c) The program works because ALL of US are in the same boat, paddling with the same oars. LEAN on this PROGRAM, and allow yourself to surrender. LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN....and don't be afraid to just follow what those old timers tell you to do. Remember, sweetie...our best thinking got us here.
Stay the course. I'm proof you can get off oxys, and do it without dying. I know it's hard, and you will be in my prayers. Each and every day you are sober, you will reclaim a part of yourself.
Many blessings.
M.

Bdug and Michelle, it is great to have you here at SR!
Michelle, those words you wrote really helped me. Thank you for sharing that!!!
I have been clean since Aug. 04 '05 ....I lost count of how many days that is........lol................been so busy with my new and better life.
They say just give the program a try and if it doesn't get better, they will gladly refund the misery....well, I don't want my misery refunded. I just want to keep on living the life that I was meant to live.
Hugs,
Angel

I'll join ya! Today is day 22 for me, but I'm trying not to focus on the number of days because I tend to get caught up the days and then feel overwhelmed because I look at some of my friends who have 3, 4, 17 & 18 years and think "Oh my God, I can't imagine not drinking for the rest of my life", so i have to change my mind set and concentrate on "one day at a time" (Cliche I know, but it seems to work for everyone else).
Hi everyone. I think God brought me to this place. My quit date is tomorrow 9/12/05. I quit smoking four years ago on 9/16 so I guess September is a good month for me. I will need all the help I can get and I just joined tonight and feel this is the place for me. God Bless you all.
Love,
Pepper
