Too Many Questions/ Not Enough Answers

I guess I'll tell you a little about me. My friend is/ has quit drinking he has 6 weeks. He is taking antabuse and has been diagnosed with Hep C, we have disscussed and actually did a little planing to get married but he was drinking then and he is the type of person who if he is going to do something he has to have both feet in the water, so we are just friends again. I find this very good for the both of us even though sometimes it's hard. The funniest thing is is that nothing has changed about our relationship. We still talk about everything and are still best friends. Any way this is totaly off the subject.
What we are wanting to know is a little more about antabuse and the side effects, with surgar and Hep C. He's been taking it for about 4 weeks and is now having problems with nausea and vomiting when he eats sugary foods. Is this his liver reading sugar as acolhol or could it be the meds and his liver?

Thanks for all your help

Welcome

Good to see you and your friend are looking for solutions.

I did take antabuse in early recovery. I had no adverse effects...until I drank with it.
I became violently ill...so I gave up the antabuse.

And... sorry I have no experience in dealing with Hep C.

You need to get medical advice..Blessings

Thanks Guys!!!!!!!! I did finally find the information I needed, Thanks to family members. Seeing doctors or Specialists is really hard for us because he has no insurance right now. We are working on that too. As it is he is seeing a free doc and they told him they can't help him with the Hep C treatment because it's too expensive. So I'm trying to find some other afforable options, maybe herbal and diet, for now. It seems like everything is catch 22, no money you die, who cares right!! Anyway there is always an option you just have to look in the right places I suppose.

Thanks again,
Valkeryheart

Keep trying to get the treatments.I was diagnosed in 1995 with Hep C.In 2001 I did 6 months of Interferon and I have been Negative ever since. And yes the treatments are expensive. They were $2800.00 a month when I did them.I was on The Oregon Health Plan and it didnt cost me a dime.Unfortunatly due to tax cuts that is no longer available.Get on the Web and keep looking. There are programs that will pay for the treatments.

It's Great to hear you are negitive, not only for you but us also, He thinks that he's never going to get over this, which is a possibilty I know, but I keep trying to instill hope in him. I think taht's the major reason for his decsion to just be friends, his fear of infecting me somehow, he dosen't even want me too wash his clothes anymore.
Thank You

(((Val))))

It sounds to me like he may have a condition called Candidia. Which can cause fermentation in the intestines and make a person feel drunk or hung over and I imagine if they take antibuse along with this condition the antibuse can react just as though a person has been drinking. If a person has candidia, sugar is the worst thing in the world to consume. Sugar, bread, anything with yeast or that turns into sugar. This is a condition many people who drink have and I feel it is not being looked into enough cause it can also cause people to crave alcohol. try keying in the word candida and see what you come up with there is also a book called :The Yeast Connection[B] that can be purchased at amazon.com. Herbs that help to support and detoxify the liver are milk thistle and dandelion greens....hope this helps

!!Splenda!!!!

Thanks!!! I'll definatly look in to that. I just talked to him this morning and told him to watch the bread, and carb intake along with sugar, I'm worried because says if he keeps feeling like this he's going to stop taking the antabuse and I really don't want him to drink anymore at this point every drink is just one step closer to death for him. Thanks again

Thats a little much.Unless you and him share a needle, odds are you will not catch it.Hep C is passed through blood. And it is very rarely passed through sex.

Yeah, I understand that, but i did the same thing the frist time I had head lice I didn't want anyone within 5 feet of me. He's working through it. Now I'm worried cause he wants to get off antabuse "so he can have a beer" don't know what to do now except tell him he's a dumbass, he thinks he feels bad now, just wait till he gets the shakes again, and turns into a major !@##!#. Thanks for the link I'll try it a print it out for him to read it. Valkeryheart
