My last binge

I have a question for all of you.

I've thought about writing a document detailing all the horrible things that I did in my last binge, as a sort of reminder to myself as to why I never want to pick up again. I'm a little unsure as to whether this is a good idea, not knowing if it will make me more depressed or something at this point.

I am 5 days sober, btw.

What are your thoughts? Is this something that anyone else has done? Is it worth it? I appreciate the feedback.

Congrads on fivefree days! usually any 'binge' is depressing afterwards.
I was always concerned about the next binge outcome, b/c the last binge almost got me on the six oclock news.

Lightbulb What

I did....I wrote down the 3 days of my last de tox from alcohol.

When I was tempted to drink again..I read how awful I felt in withdrawal. It sure helped me stay strong.

Way to go on seeking recovery. Support meetings are vital IMO.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Why not. And you could write a tape, moment by moment account of what happens during and after, and how you feel when taking the first drink. You could in effect take the drink on paper and see how it feels.

Congrates on the five days.
I personally thinks is a grest idea.
My sponor suggested that I made a list of desperates moments
or the troubles or situations I got meself into, in my using.
It was a simple list.
I carried the list in my wallet to remind me, on top of the phone list.
you know......... I forget real fast.
I never wanted to go back there again, real depressing and than some.lol
The list saved my ass many, many times. It helped me get thourgh
some urges and prevented relapes in my earliy recovery.

Come to think of it...mmmm I should make one again.
It's been a while for me...I never want to forget where I came from.

Thank you for sharing.
I was starting to get wacked again.
I forget, I'm an addict/alki. I counldn't stop using even if I tried.
I should be greatful to be clean and sober today, thats the miracle.
Everything else is an add on or a gift.

Thanks for the input. I am going to take the time to do it.

I'm also gonna print out the Tools post on SR because there were some very positive ideas on that too.

I feel like such a nerd, I'm envisioning putting together a "sobriety notebook" for myself.

There is so much good, inspiring information out there. The trouble is, I tend to forget them when my addiction starts trying to take hold.

I think the list would be a good thing for you. It really helps remind you of these rough times. A notebook would also be cool. Like journaling of sorts. Lots of good stuff to be found in this new life. Congrats on the 5 days.

Love,
Hope

Hi Greatful

Great news on 5 days. I think reminders are an important part of staying on track.

My latest (hopefully last) binge left many physical traces...including scars. broken momentos, torn and paint splattered clothing, etc... as well as huge emotional scars and ruptures in my friendships. At one point, I had thrown all of the reminders of that three week period into a bag to burn and forget. In the end I kept most of them as 'reminders"...I can barely bare to look at them...which is good.

A 5 day Wonder!

Wise words from SR as always, and a photograph (((Exlibris Method))) is quite powerful as you will also note.

I remember 5 days - I counted the moments each day till the off-licence would close each night before I felt easy. It needs loads of work I know but a sober head and no trouble causing is a joy indeed.....

I think it's a good idea, although for me, when I found myself in the 'grip' of wanting a drink, I wouldn't even bother reading it - I would physically not look at it, or think about it, just instead go and buy some wine! Now that I go to AA, I have to say going to a meeting is, for me, the best antidote to drinking that I have EVER come across, or could have imagined! Getting into a good routine - ie home after work then supper, then relax a bit then off to the gym - does help a HUGE amount. IMO new habits and structure are essential.
Good luck!
Keep us posted!
