You did too make it. You made it through last week without drinking. And you made it back to this board. Today is a new day, a gift from God. Sober so far?
I'm no better or smarter than you are. I'm sober so far today. I'm going to my AA homegroup meeting at 8 PM. All I'm trying to do is stay away from one drink - the first one - for one day - today. Tomorrow, if I wake up, I'll do the same. I've been doing it for over 16 years.... BUT I'm only one drink away from drunk, same as you. The bars are still there, and there's more of them. It's still the same distance from the table to the lips. I can still reach that far. But now I can easily afford, financially, to drink myself to death. If I do, the disease wins. The disease must not win. If my Higher Power, whom I choose to call God, wanted me dead, I would be.
This is my twelfth-step work - I try to carry this Program to alcoholics by sharing on these message boards, among other things. If you get drunk I haven't failed - I've "tried".
Look up Alcoholics Anonymous in the phone book. Make the call.
Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.
