Sad News, Prayers Needed

Hey guys. I just found out that a good family friend shot and killed himself over the past weekend. He was 39 years old, married and had a successful business. I am angry, sad, confused, and depressed. How could someone be so selfish as to take their own life. Please include his friends and family in your prayers. Also, if you would, say a prayer for the troubled soul who thought he had no other way out. I will be attending the memorial service tomorrow morning.

You neverr know. I lost a friend last year as well came into the program a little b 4 I did. We had planned on going to a ball game in a week and He shot his self called his son first. By the time his son got there he was dead. I just sat there and looked at my son when, I found out. The boy and my son went to school together.

Life is so good, we'll never know why someone doesn't love this gift of life!! Heart felt emotions going out to you and hope you always remember the good times you shared with your friend

Lulu, this is very sad news, but I winced when I read this. I understand your anger. But I also understand what it is to struggle with suicidal ideation. I tried to kill myself when I was 16. I'm now in my 40s, and not until I truly began a path of holistic recovery, did I find a way to stop the suicidal thoughts. I knew long ago I wouldn't kill myself -- I have 3 children and once I became a mother I knew I could never leave them to that fate. But that hasn't stopped the torment of the thoughts at times. Once, when things seemed so bad when I was a young mother with 2 young children, I had ideas of killing myself and them as well so they wouldn't suffer the legacy of growing up without a mother who killed herself. Insane thinking, yes. But that's what it is when you get to the point of considering acting on these thoughts.

I'm glad I'm far past that now, with a lot of hard work.

Again, I'm sorry for your pain and just feel terrible for the family.

Indeed - sad news especially for the family he left behind, My uncle shot and killed himself when he was about that age leaving behind 3 children. After his wife left him he despaired and fortunately (or unfortunately as the case may be) he had enough money to give up his job. This was the worse thing he could have done as it was the slippy slope downwards - no purpose, no kids making a noise and causing a racket round the house etc, etc. To this day my dad finds it hard to understand why someone could do that to themselves but let's just hope they have gone to a better, happier place and are no more the tortured souls that they once were. Be kind to yourself and all the feelings associated with grief. x
