I want to see a film in Dublin Friday night I saw it years ago, just not in the cinema. It's a once off showing. I can't afford a hotel and don't have a passport or driving licence to stay in. a hostel. I was thinking of just staying caffeinated and hanging out in the sauna until the first train Saturday. They don't serve alcohol. A part of me thinks this is a terrible idea although. :/ |
I think it is a terrible idea. |
I agree. I bet you will have another chance to see this film. D |
Yeah. The same cinema will probably have it on again in the future. |
The film is Under the Skin, which got good reviews in 2013 but with time has become a cult classic. It'll be shown again in the next few years at some point. Probably when the director releases his next film.tñ |
Just don’t drink. |

Maybe best to put your energies into going to a local aa or na meeting or both and stay away from Dublin |
Please be kind to yourself & protect your sobriety. You know in your heart it's risky. |
Staying caffeineted and staying up all night isn't good for anyones mental health. I know if I did that I'd feel spaced out the next day, and generally not great. What you need to do is look after yourself. You know, things like a nice cup of hot chocolate or tea, a healthy meal, stay in watch a movie on Netflix and go to bed at a nice hour, have a nice sleep. Wake up well rested. |
Freedom I don’t really care if you go to Dublin, or not. Do whatever you want to do, and take the consequences. That’s life. |
Wise words steely. At the end of the day we are all adults and responsible for our own actions and consequences. Do what you want ff. |
Seems to me Freedom you are willing to keep yourself “caffeinated” to go see a movie in Dublin, yet fall asleep before every AA/NA meeting you say you are going to attend. And I don’t really care if you go to meetings. But if you do as you say you are going to do, maybe have a cup of coffee beforehand. Stay caffeinated. There is nowhere in Dublin you couldn’t buy alcohol. Nowhere you couldn’t get your hands on pseudo. I think you’re having yourself on Freedom. |
I haven't seen this movie but from a Google search it is showing at the Lighthouse Cinema which is in Smithfield Dublin 7, an area I'm familiar with myself (I lived in nearby Stoneybatter for a decade) and I know for a fact it is in close proximity to many places where booze and probably also drugs are available. Also plenty of Garda around in that area so if you are found on the streets in a drunken state with no place to stay in Dublin and no funds to pay for a taxi home you stand a high chance of being arrested. I don't think this is a good plan FF. |

I'd be on the bus to the train station now. Probably not sober. I might not have even gone to the film. |
I could have run into my old drug dealer, or drug acquaintances. I'd be sleep deprived in Dublin looking rough so no doubt heroin dealers would have approached me too. |
You made a good choice not going, FF. D |
I know. I wish my town had an indie cinema though lol. Oh well, Fast forward (FF lol) a few years, I'll be long term sober with a job and a 1 bedroom apartment in Dublin or nearby. |
Hold that thought Freedom. All can be yours. I’m glad you didn’t go to Dublin Freedom. Do you remember “The Dubliners”?! |
