25 days and counting

Hello everyone

I am currently 25 days sober and can’t believe it. I have read so much great information on SR and this has made such a difference in my recovery. I was in a really bad place but now I can see how drinking was the cause.

I now know I can’t drink like other people and that is a problem. I sat and worked out all my issues and everything points to me and drinking so I made a choice a deal with myself that it was time to quit.

I have a long road ahead but it doesn’t scare me as much as for the first time ever I want to live.

the first post I made on SR I was in bits but I am getting better every day.

thanks to everyone on SR for there support and encouragement. Have a wonderful day

A lot of soul searching summed up in two sentences, Aldo. It’s like losing a friend (so it feels). But it sounds like you might’ve reached that lightbulb moment. Life’s sh** for us as drinkers. We’d waste the rest of our days yearning for booze. Life will change beyond belief once you’re truly free. 25 days is no mean feat. You must’ve suffered, so well done. It’s time to plan what to do next. What’s going to fill the time you’d spent drinking? Something must fill that time such as a new hobby or exercise. Keep posting and let us know how you’re getting on 🙂

Congrats Aldo! You've made a great start!
Its no mean feat, and not every day is better than the last, but it trends better and better over time.
You'll learn to deal with things in different ways and its not always easy but its worth it!

What a great post, Aldo. That was the hard part for me - finally admitting I could never be a social drinker. (I sure had a lot of practice trying.)
So proud of your 25 days. :yup: Well done.

25 days is awesome it's so worth it you realise how alcohol affects lots of parts of your life you didn't realise. Alcohol causes the problems you'll be amazed how much good you learn about yourself. Your doing great just keep going no matter what.

Good on you Aldo.

Best choice you could have ever made for yourself.

Many of us use SR as a recovery lifeline and recovery tool
each day to help achieve continuous sobriety. We also use
it for recovery support which is important, because no one
ever has to go through this or anything in life alone or by
ourselves.

Surrounding yourself with likeminded folks, folks who
have been through many of the same similar things as
you/us is comforting.

Stay the course, don't pick up the first drink and
keep your recovery support connected for help
anytime. :grouphug:

Well done on the 25 days Aldo. :c014:

Great job. Keep it up. I'm 14 days in.

DeplorableDog 01-17-2024 07:27 PM

Fourteen days is the hardest part. You are completely sober now. All you have to do now is never take the first drink again.

I had that same reaction at 25 days.

Yes, there are still unknowns at this time, and it's human nature to be scared of unknowns. Now, I believe you probably already see this, or are at least suspecting it, but I just wanted to say that every one of those scary unknowns turned out to be nothing but pointless worries. There is nothing scary in recovery after you are well into it. It's like I was expecting something to be bad that is actually good.

OK, early recovery wasn't perfection, and I still had to deal with problems, and I still do, but I handle those problems better now. It didn't happen overnight, but every step of the journey was still flat out better than getting drunk.

Great work, Aldo! You will see the benefits add up quickly, keep going.

Ayers 01-19-2024 08:52 PM

Well done, ALdo. You have reason to feel proud.
From now on forwards, some may say time drags along, others say time flies.
I didn't count my days at the start, because I didn't like thinking the "One day at a Time" way - because I said to myself that I'm in this for life.
Although, it was fun when I did count the days once in a while (who doesn't want to know?) and found I had more days sober than I thought I did.
Good luck and stay the course and post often.
