Alcohol Exhausts Me

I don't drink all week and then Friday comes along and I go nuts.

It's as simple as that. What I really need to do is start working out every morning (Crossfit) and train to run marathons. I just need a healthy release.

Sorry. Guess I'm just another drunk.

You are more than that. Its not easy, please don't be so hard on yourself

Have you tried AA or your doctor. Its the will to stop and want a sober life. Apparently it gets easier as we go, i have to believe that. For a start I really like waking up no hangovers and doing stuff with my weekend thats not just recovering on sofa with painkillers. Urgh. Not nice that bit.

I am another drunk too :) But I am trying to fix that and I believe you want to change that too.

I don't know if I will make it all the way through today. I keep reminding myself to just hold on, just get through today. I do know if I have one, it is the biggest ONE, it is the ONE that will take me right back in to that dark hole. So I envision what ONE will feel like and then how the 4th will feel like and then on and on. And it doesn't sound very good, and thinking about that helps to put the brakes on.

Shower, get up tomorrow and make it a sober day.

Ha, listen to me giving advice and I am only 1 1/2 days in. We are hurting, let's all hold each other up till we can stand on our own. Stay strong.

I had many starts…….

I had to have MORE pain remaining on the same trajectory than the fear and distrust of a sober life.

I had to be ready to give it MY ALL. As if, my life, depended on it. Of course it did, so I behaved as such.

Some aren’t ready until death takes its grip, of the soul, body, and spirit.

Don’t give it that power

As bookbuff says, you’re so much more than “just a drunk”, TWTOM. If entering a marathon in X months will help, you’ve really got to do that. You’ve got that runners high (not that I understand that and I’m a runner 🤣 ) which is a huge plus. But don’t sell yourself short.

working out didn’t help for me…. CrossFit helped me fool myself into it being OK to drink. After all, I was hitting the gym hard and MAN, was I in shape!! I deserved the ‘reward’.

Then by Sunday I was self loathing and by Monday I was anxious and miserable and back to swearing THIS time for sure I was gonna quit.

me, I had to stop quitting and start starting.

the nice thing was once I shifted my focus from ‘stop drinking’ to ‘start recovering’ - there were a bunch of positive actions I could commit to. I could still work out, but I’d also work the steps, go to a meeting every day, read the Big Book, listen to recovery podcasts, mod long-neglected chores, pay a few bills…..

maybe you could find progress in quitting ‘quitting’ and instead start recovering!
