Allergies and alcohol

Something I noticed when I was drinking is that my seasonal allergies were worse. Anyone else? Hi everyone by the way . Sorry I’ve been MIA. My anxiety from moving 2,000 miles away and starting a new job has been overwhelming

No, my allergies didn't get worse when drinking. You're really brave to move far away and start a new job. It would terrify me.

Actually more than increase in allergies due to alcohol, I was literally allergic to alcohol itself. The heavy hops used in IPAs caused intense nose blockages and eye itching. Upset stomach and loose bowels the next day. I am glad I am past all these unwanted worries. Happy days, Boring days, Anxious days, Upsetting days, Busy days.... all days my mind is clear like a crystal.

Its good to hear from you AJ

I used to run my immune system down terribly..drinking all day and night...little to no food.
I can't tell you the last time I had hayfever now

My allergies were definitely worse when I was drinking. Added to that, I would also smoke cigarettes when drinking which added to the problem. I still get hayfever but can control it much better now I'm sober.

Hope things are getting better for you AJ, and your inner strength and confidence are regaining themselves.

I've had bad allergies all my adult life with lots sinus trouble. Florida has lots of airborne allergens. Since I quit drinking it has been minimal.

I hadn't really noticed but now that you mention it unless I cut the lawn when the pollen is high I haven't had bad allergies since I quit either.
Thanks for pointing out a other gift of sobriety!

My allergist told me when I was 32 that I was allergic to everything in beer and wine - the hops, yeast, sulfites, etc. She also told me my liver enzymes were high, so I took a break for a couple years but eventually went back to it, for another couple decades.

I definitely noticed the last few times I drank anything how badly it affects me. Sneezing and wheezing from beer, and a really stuffy nose from wine. Allergies are kind of cumulative so it would also lower your threshhold for the pollen and stuff.
