Just found this forum today, and I like what I’ve seen here. I’m a binge drinker, currently sober 10 days. When I think I can have one drink, I can’t stop. Jim Beam and craft beer are my downfall, although most anything works against me. It’s a constant battle against alcohol. I’ve got a good life, and determined to get the monkey off my back forever.
Welcome, G man, Ten days was the last of the strong cravings for me so you're doing great. It will get easier.
The key is to keep reading and posting, and do anything you have to not to take a drink. That first drink is the killer.

Great to meet you, G Man! Congratulations for taking a look at what alcohol does to your life. We all understand.
You're so right - when we think we can have one, we can't. That was so hard for me to admit. I went on far too long trying to control the amounts I drank & it never worked once.
Being here to talk things over will help - you're not alone.

For me, at 10 days, I was starting to turn the corner, the cravings were abating to the point where I was willing to accept and embrace that a lifetime commitment to sobriety was doable. I can't stress enough that not having cravings doesn't mean a cure, but sincerely making a lifetime commitment added a whopping injection of power to my recovery, and I was then on my way with nary a backward glance. If you harbor thoughts that you may need to sneak a single drink or a good drunk down the road, you aren't taking advantage of all the power you have inside you. Half a commitment never worked for me.
