Sober Weekenders -Weekender thread 12-15 May 2023

[posted for Mags]

Welcome to the Weekenders.

Weekends can be difficult when trying to stay sober, so we get together and support each other and talk about a range of topics.

If you’re new to Weekenders and it’s your first sober weekend, firstly, you’re doing great for making this decision.

Secondly, you’ve realised you can’t control your alcohol intake.....but want to...”you seriously want to stop”.

When I first realised this, I dismissed it...I was ok (denial!) and thought I knew when to stop....

Yeah, it was usually when I’d passed out, or as I liked to call it, fell asleep.

I couldn’t bear the thought of life without alcohol, the future looked so bleak without it....How wrong I was!

If you’re thinking along those thoughts, there is a way past it.

There’s so much more life, without the booze.

‘Sobriety Delivers Everything That Alcohol Promised’

Come and join us and shout up whenever you feel like it!

When I was drinking, I never thought I could have fun anymore if I didn't drink. How wrong I was! . My life is infinitely better this way. . Much simpler, more peaceful. No more drunken chaos. No more shame and regret.

When I found SR I was really struggling to stay sober. Sad to say that it took me almost two years after joining to finally get sober for good. . Just glad I finally did it.

Hi Red

Least, I too thought my life would be boring if I stopped drinking. I don’t have the hype I had with drinking anymore. I’m calmer and happier. I don’t miss all that drinking brought me.

Thanks Mags (and Dee). I'm IN for a sober weekend. This weekend will be my 14th consecutive sober weekend and Sunday will be my 4 month soberversary.

I've always found weekends the most difficult to stay sober. When I was working a Monday to Friday 9 to 5, weekends meant no work the next day and lots of drinking. At one time it used to be fun but then the fun stopped and it became a necessity rather than a choice. In the end I was drinking each and every weekend because my body was craving it and when I started drinking on a Friday evening I didn't know how or when to stop. Thankfully I now have a choice of drinking or staying sober and I'm choosing the latter.

I hope everyone has a peaceful weekend.

I can definitely relate to the topic…years of drinking until I “fell asleep” …7 days a week…

Thanks Mags, Dee, and friends for all of your help and continued support!

In for another sober weekend!

Thanks for the thread, Dee!

I'm in! I am working weekends, and I used to long for that first pop of a beer can. This weekend I am looking forward to long nights of reading, watching TV and knitting, instead of drinking them away.

Happy weekend, everyone!

In for the weekend. Doing best I can to get beyond the many years of beer drinking while doing yard work in the spring. Actually getting yard work done this spring instead of losing count of how many beers I have had.

Pledging for today. Day 221.

Another sober weekend, just like all of them!

It's 2:30 am here and I can't sleep cause the smoke alarm beeped three times, but not again and I don't know what to do and can't sleep for worrying about it and hearing that loud beep is enough to keep me awake. . I put in an online service request, which is usually answered quickly. I hope the guy calls me in the morning to fix it. The loud beep is making me nuts. :

Least, mine beep when they need a new battery. It's those rectangular 9 volts. Hope you can get them to stop. Our dogs have always hated that chirping sound.

Two blueberry muffins from yesterday have been standing on the counter during the night. Nobody bothered to put them away. So I devoured one of them right now and it was flipping delicious. And I'm the one that made it. I need to be more confident in what I do.

Wow, it's Thursday already!

I absolutely hated that I could not stop drinking when I wanted to. Every days resolve would end up with a last minute rush to the vendor. It took time, but eventually sheer determination won out. But I was dumb and didn't ask for help. I even felt I had to prove myself and stay sober for a week before joining SR. Stupid. It was that feeling of unworthiness that stopped me from reaching out.

I never really drank for fun..It was more for an escape which ended up being an all day event for me. Pretty ridiculous.

Taking a trip without leaving the farm, so to speak. All the reasons I drank were just exacerbated by the drinking.
