Still here!
 

Just checking in. 760 days strong. Sometimes I feel like I “woke up” from a 15-year fever dream… and now I’m still learning who I am sober. But I’ve never been sharper, more motivated, healthier or happier. There are still days where I discover new things about myself — realizing just how much of my drinking was to silence a near-constant boiling anxiety and inability to face or experience emotional pain. Now I stare it down, experience it, and let it wash over me — I certainly don’t need poison to combat it (and exacerbate it).

I’m so damn proud of myself. Giving up alcohol was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

How are you all? Always good to be back here. Stay strong, friends. It took me eleven years posting here for it to finally click. Hang in there.

Thanks for checking in - 760 days is great - congratulations. The rewards of sobriety are a bit of a revelation (a very nice one) aren't they?

I'm now at 1551 days and it keeps getting better. Rediscovering oneself is a fascinating process...

Congratulations on 2.08219 years! Congratulations on learning to deal with anxiety and emotional pain. How we do that turned out as a surprise. For me, a lot of it was like learning to flow with the river until I came to the beach where I could relax and enjoy.

I feel like I was in a dream too - all those years of being numb & oblivious to my actual life passing me by.
So true about the need to face what's causing us problems. In trying to avoid pain, we're not experiencing things with a clear head. Some of the painful things shape us & help us grow.
