Greetings. I have decided to quit.
This is an interesting place with lots of nice people. I am on day eight with no drinks. I am feeling terrific--now. I have also quit coffee a few years ago, and the smokes three years ago (Chantix). My wife is surprised I am not having my usual weekend cocktails this weekend and last--she was not pushing me to stop. I just have grown bored with drinking, and reading the accounts of others here left me with no other logical choice but to stop. I want to be healthier and could see how my old friend was corrosive--bit by bit. Good bye to my old "friend".
Now I plan to pursue my short-term and long term goals. Good luck to everyone

Welcome to SR Creativegood
I see reading here is a good part of your recovery Me too. Keep posting as another addition to your personal wellness plan.
Alcohol and me no longer have a toxic relationship. I do not drink no matter what. Because sobriety looks good on me as it will look good on you too. "You can do this"

If you discover that you can't stay stopped on your own, please keep in mind that that is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that there is a type of alcoholic who can only stay sober by fully committing to the recovery program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to chat more about that.
Hi CreativeGood! 8 days is great! I'm right behind you. For me, if I got to day 10, then it was usually smooth sailing until day 40-60. Then I would convince myself I'm fine and end up on the same hamster wheel all over again. I'm glad you're joining us. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of short term and long term goals do you have? Mine is to stay better focused on my vegetable garden this year. If the snow ever stops. Last year I expanded my garden with good intentions of having a great harvest. I really think my drinking took over too much for me to give it the proper attention it needed. Drinking is a time suck. I am looking forward to having more time this spring and summer.
Great to meet you, Creative. You'll never regret taking this step.
I knew way before I quit that my dependence was growing. Yet I did nothing to seriously try quitting. By the time I did, very bad things had happened.
Congrats on your 8 days free of it.

@Creativegood Do you think you might be an alcoholic, or is this more for personal health? I'm just curious. Either way, you are welcome here. I wish I would have quit before my problem became as serious as it did.

I need to post 15 times before I can reply to replies so this is #2. I am not ignoring those that have asked me a question. Thank you for the kind welcoming messages and thoughtful questions. Today is day 10. I am working towards cooking, cleaning, working out on my beloved rowing machine, and focusing on my attempts to play my guitars, and meal planning with a more plant based diet--I am not giving up meat. I am eyeing a new hobby from my childhood too. Good luck to all.

Well, it is later on this evening and guess what? I am not having my usual cocktails which is very notable because I have a bit of time off this coming week. I took a nice nap today and had a funny dream where I was smoking (I quit 3 years ago)! AND driving to the local liquor store. I woke up and laughed and said..."you are not tricking me like that!'. I got busy, prepared a smoothie, then rowed, and made brown rice. Took a nice long hot shower and I later had that tingle in my tummy...that feeling of wanting a bit of the sip--early evening...I ignored it and treated myself to a nice bowel of cold, sweet, creamy vanilla ice cream--so much better than a cocktail. I have lots planned tomorrow, and it is going to be a beautiful day weather wise. Best to all.
