Cool Hey From Texas!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. I recently found this site and thought how helpful this can be as a resource for support. On February 4th 2023 i officially hit my 6 year sober-versary. I also recently received my credentials for Peer Recovery Support Specialist, even though ive been a recovery coach for over 4 years, TODAY I enrolled in school to get my bachelors in Criminal Justice/Human Services at almost 39 years old, I'm a mother to 5 children and 2 teenage Pups, I work full time, volunteer my time within my local recovery community, and am working on a huge project with ROSC to start a sobering center in my county. After ALL of this happening within the last 5 months (mostly less lol), as amazing as all of this is, it can be really overwhelming. I already go to therapy every 2 weeks, but I think having this site as a secondary support system is a great idea for me.

Just a little more about me, I'm a HUGE goal setter. I dont mess around when it comes to my goals and purposes. This is how I stay on track. I love life BECAUSE of these goals and purposes (and more so, my children)

I started my sobriety journey back in 2015 after having a melt down because of my drug use (H). As a stay-at-home mother of 3 little ones at the time and a husband who worked 2.5 jobs to support us and was never home, i decided Medication assisted treatment was the best route for me. I dont deal with people who have negative things to say about MAT/Methadone/etc. especially because I wouldnt be where I am today without it. So please dont bother putting me down over my choice to utilize methadone during my recovery journey. #1 - Its not your business and #2 - I couldnt care less what negativity someone wants to spew. Im too booked and too busy to be bothered with opinions of strangers. Im also a MAT advocate AND an advocate for pregnant mothers on MAT, so im sure that tells you ive done and continue to do, extensive research, including statistics, regarding medication assisted treatment and I whole-heartedly believe it works for *SOME* people.
As a recovery coach, its my actual job to assess each of my peers thats come to me, in order to see what type of treatment could work best for them. I do NOT think MAT is for everyone, nor do I recommend MAT for a first option. it really depends on each individual. Being an advocate doesnt mean that its all i believe in. Its my job to know ALL types of recovery paths and Ive made it my mission in life to know every single one of them I come across.

That said, I hope everyone here is kind and supportive, because im going to need it lol I have a lot on my plate and sometimes I just need someone to understand, and other times Its best im not coddled lol.

I hope everyone has a really great day and just know Im here if you ever need to talk or vent. Im a good listener .
