Smile Good WaPo article about Dry January

and the benefits it brings, even after Dry January is over. It said that many people either stayed sober after January was over, or drank significantly less. I gifted the article so it's free to read, no paywall.

Awesome stuff! Back when I drank the idea of going without for a month would have seemed ludicrous. But now with ten years sobriety under my belt it's something I almost never think about. If you are a drinker, going a month sober is a great idea! It might be easy and you find no desire to start again. Or it might be agony but you'll learn something about yourself.

I agree, the old me would have scoffed at such an idea. I would have both wanted to take part and yet been angry that I knew I couldn't. It's funny how easy it is once you take the blinders off. For me this is another way of saying it was about recognizing that the AV was feeding me lies: you can never do this, therefore, there isn't any point in trying. But those are lies. A similar one is the old AV tale about weddings. "You can never enjoy a wedding sober, therefore you may as well keep on drinking forever, because someday someone will invite you to a wedding and you'll have to drink." Stupid lies that enable the addictive behavior. To all who will enjoy an alcohol-free January this year: I salute you, and let's support each other!

"Dry January". Just a fad started by normie moderate drinker wusses. I'm going to be dry in January because I want to be able to eat without throwing up and not live on a park bench when it's 10 below.

Yes, I did dry January in 2020 and I'm still sober today.
30 days seemed such a crazy unachievable target at the time. But here I am, having done it 36 times over.
