I really do miss drinking

I mean like.....hugely

Falling back on to a hard floor bumping my head, giving my dad the shock of his life picking me up off the floor
Lying....daily
Complete absence of food for days on end
Drinking on waking up

Rotating trips to local off licenses so I could believe that no one thought I had a problem
Vomiting on my bedroom carpet regularly

Smelling of booze every time I drove
Workplace paranoia that colleagues could smell booze on me...daily
Being fearful.....daily
Blacking out
Waking up realising that I was in hell but alive on the earth
No prospects unless it was to get through the day and then look forward to drinking time

Losing full weeks of holidays staying in my bedroom either drunk or hungover

*Sarcasm of course, however I hope this is helpful to anyone today considering picking up just one drink. It isn't worth it. If you don't have a plan to start being sober, simply plan your day ahead. If you can do 24 hours, you can go again the next day, then build on that.....believe you can do it as it is only you that can and believe that you are worthy and deserving of a fantastic sober life. Because you are 🙂 today I'm with the sober crew, there's no better place to be

Left it all behind. When I took the label off the bottle I could read the fine print.

I miss none of it, not even the white wine in the sun advertisement.

Happy for you Stewy.

Thank you for this, Stewy. It’s a great reminder for when I begin to romanticize alcohol. Pffff an alcoholic’s life is horrid while still drinking. I could resonate with each one of your statements to some degree.

The lying and hiding are now a thing of the past.

I don’t miss my old ways in the slightest. I can’t believe how sick I would get, and it was all for alcohol! I suddenly have more money and spare calories lol.

Great post.

It's always important to remind ourselves how bad alcohol is instead of romanticizing it like our AV tends to do.

Always good to remember the reasons we quit, thanks Stewy.

Reminds me of a TV ad against smoking by John Cleese. He held a big glass jar full of cigarette butts and ashes. And he dumped in a about a cup of water and shook it up vigorously. Then he said something like "I love smoking. The smell is just so great, whenever I smell cigarettes, I want more." Then he buried his nose deep in the disgusting jar and took a very long, very deep inhale. "Refreshing!" (Said nobody ever, of course. Great way to remind you of the downsides of that particular habit.)

Sorry if this offends any smokers. I'm just trying to point out that it helps to stay in touch about the true nastiness of the habit, whether drinking or smoking or anything else, to stay clear-eyed about all that's involved.

Thanks for posting.

No prospects unless it was to get through the day and then look forward to drinking time”

This struck a nerve 🤣

I was going nowhere as a drinker, but I’ve done more in the last four years (sober) than the previous twenty! I’m not particularly talented or driven. I just quit drinking and things started falling into place.

I'm really gonna miss the pounding headache, weakness and nausea tomorrow morning.
Ooh almost forgot the dry, disgusting film in my mouth.
GOOD TIMES!

What I really miss (not) is going for what should be a nice evening with non- or occasional drinkers and cursing them all silently whilst they do interesting things and delay the start of my drinking time 😒
