Something else I like about being sober - I have my self respect back. . For the longest time I didn't respect myself cause I hated myself and thought I was useless. Now I know I have something to give to many people and to my dog and cats. . I used to wake up each day wishing I would die just to end my miserable existence. . Now I don't hate myself anymore. Not only do I respect myself again, my adult kids respect me also.

Being able to breathe. That inhale of fresh air, followed by the exhale of relief. The ability to not rely on a substance to operate or use it to escape reality momentarily. The reaction on peoples faces when you say "no, im okay" after they ask/offer. Its a face of confusion but also as if theyre proud of you for doing better. It gives hope to everyone, especially to yourself.
