BAH HUMBUG! ‘‘Tis the season of - Weekenders 02 - 05 December 2022
Hi everyone, I’ve skipped a couple of weekend postings, so glad to drop in, see new faces…..😎🤓❤️
Thanks Mags, as always.
This will be my third Xmas sober, and two in a row.
Xmas is sad, was filled with tragedy for me, and unfulfilled expectations. Drinking never helped with ANY of that, but being sober I’m able to handle what comes my way.
Im working on being a Jewish wife, so happy Chanukah month as well. 🕎

AthensDawg there’s seems to be quite a bit of home caring nowadays, I hope you can find a suitable person(S) when one is needed.
Marty it’ll be good for your friend and you to go out for lunch tomorrow. Pleased he’s going to take the plunge.
looking forward to your holiday in January is brilliant this time of the year.
Kaily great pic of Alfie and Daisy. ❤️
I watched a Christmas film early this morning. It was a bit corny and very feel-good feeling. It was much more favourable than current affairs and the news.

Thanks, Mags, for another great thread.
Reid, hope you feel better.
Robbie, congrats on your sober time; well done, you. How are you feeling?
AthensDawg, hope you find a safe and workable solution for your Dad.
Happily in for a Sober Weekend.

Thanks Mags. Excellent OP. ;0) I am in!
Reid I hope you get well fast.
Marty you are so good to your man friend. Hope he turns a corner soon.
Robbie Congrats to you on your sober time.
Hope everyone has a good sober weekend.
Christmas will be bittersweet for me. My first one without my brother and my sweet mother. It will be my 3rd sober Christmas in a row. Grateful our granddaughter will be with us. Also grateful my son is coming from SF with his new GF. Have not seen him since March.
I will be decorating this weekend as we got our tree yesterday. We managed to spend just under $100 for it. Boy have they gone up, like everything I guess. But with a big group expected I decided to splurge on one that reaches the ceiling.
Here is a shot of the leaves off my Japanese Maple in my birdbath. Festive colors.

Stuff can seem more complicated at Xmas. It's what I do that matters, thoughts and feelings can go from being happy in a moment- mild weather, walking dog- then I will see something that reminds me of being in a family...and sadness, guilt, loneliness take over, and then.....the simple ODAATime can be, sometimes one minute at a time. And that open the flood gates to every miserable memory, peppered with emotions to take over in c-PTSD. I suppose being through what I have, including 3 relatives (2 were important to me) dying in a matter of weeks has hit me hard....I may not have got it right yet, but at least I know what not to do. Not drinking booze is at the top of the list.

PJ I have a lot of bad memories around Christmas too. It is an emotive time of year that will soon pass. We can't avoid it so we have to go through it.
CBS, love the pic.
Marty, how lovely to be spending Christmas time with your daughter and then a holiday to look forward to. It is a shame that your friend is unable to go. Hopefully next time.
Mags, I don't watch Christmas films, I'm just too jaded. Glad you enjoyed it, there is certainly a lot to choose from
.
SR and my commitment is the only thing keeping me sober, well that and my accumulated sober time that I am loath to give up. Other than that I can't see a reason not to blank out my days. Dangerous ground again with all these thoughts. And several times I have found myself looking at vodka prices and handling bottles

Morning Weekenders,
Love this - thank you Mags for such a good opener this week. Little news from here but I guess quiet is good. I have a full weekend planned though, including afternoon tea with my family in a local country park which I'm very much looking forward to. I can hardly believe I'll be four years sober in less than a month's time. You guys (and SR) have been with me all the way!
Anyway, warm wishes to all. Forwards.

Kaily, I’m glad your sober time and Sr helps keep the booze at bay. it’s better than succumbing to it I’m sure.
I’ve not watched a ‘nice’ film for quite a while but I really needed to get ‘out of myself’, stop my mind going ten to the dozen.
Forwards enjoy your afternoon tea with your family, sounds a lovely setting in a country park. Nearly 4 years sober! Time flies
If you’re struggling shout out. This time of year can be hard with all the ads for booze pushed in our faces. (And perfumes and chocolates too!)

its a wonderful Saturday morning and I'm not hungover !
today is also my Friday at work.
Georgia has a big game this afternoon against LSU for the SEC title. Georgia got embarrassed last season in this game so I'm hoping for a different result later today. I get to enjoy the game with my dad. I try to watch most of the big games with him, I know he enjoys the company and I do as well.
The days and weeks are moving really quickly which is a great thing.

I'm tickled that in five days, on the 8th, next Thursday, I'll have 13 yrs sober. I never thought I could get so far, 'the first days and weeks were a struggle but it all came out for the best..

CBS, lovely picture.
My favorite Christmas movie is Lethal Weapon. Not really a Christmas movie, just an action rogue cop movie set at Christmas time in LA.
Christmas is when I temporarily give up on trying to loose those extra pounds put on over Thanksgiving.
For so long, the events around Christmas were just more excuses to drink.

Not much to say right now, it will be the first time in 26 years that Mr. A and I will be with family at Christmas. We always enjoyed the day together with our own little/simplistic rituals. Now that we are back we will have to change it up a bit.

(((PJ))) I am glad you have your pup. You sound very resilient. Hang in there. We are here for you.
least almost 13 years in incredible.
Forwards 4 years soon for you! Yay!
Mags thanks for being here for us. Are you all moved?
Here is my kitty Patty recently just chillin"
