itsmaria, it sounds like a tough situation to be in. You've been part of the group for years so it's understandable that you want to keep mixing with the members. However the problem could be that every time you go there you are going to end up drinking. It's a tough call - do you sacrifice that social activity or do you keep putting yourself at risk of relapsing?

Kaily, if the workman is there to do some work for your landlord, can you not contact the landlord to get someone more reliable to do the job? I understand that tradesmen in London are particularly in demand with plenty of work on offer but that doesn't excuse them being unprofessional. Given his demeanor when in your house it may be better to get someone else to do the job.

Kaily, a lady in the next village has one of those . She takes in stray cats and finds them homes (hopefully) and has a long run in her garden with a cat flap into her home. It’s good. Can’t see Mr. Mags agreeing to one though.

Kaily, you could do something like my oldest sister does when she has repair people coming. She is single, but she has a large and worn pair of work boots that she puts by the door and cooks up some story about her husband or boyfriend being 'on duty' or something.
