Don’t Quit this weekend - Weekenders 30 September - 03 October 2022
Thanks Mags, a straggler here.
Red you are over half way to 100 days, three digits - a huge milestone. No party is worth giving that up for. Yes it will be tempting and testing, take that challenge and conquer. Play the tape another way and think how pleased you will be waking up with no regrets.
Love the blue smilie Zencat. Welcome.
Well done on 9 months, Britbird. It will soon be a year!
Horrible dreams of being drunk and lost again. Oh so disturbing / exhausting.

Good Morning Weekenders
Hi Zencat and Kaily
Kaily, sorry you had disturbing dreams of being drunk and lost again. You could do with having lucid dreams then you can smash the av in your dream. Maybe.

its been a hell of a week, but all very positive. I got back into one on one therapy and its going to be a long process but very much worth it. I also have group therapy every Thursday afternoon which I love.
Cooler temps have arrived in Athens and its my favorite part of the year here. It goes from hotter than crap to cooler(70's) and not much humidity. Football and hoodie weather, its awesome. Athens sits in a unique place here in Georgia. You start to get some terrain here as you work your way up into the mountains. It can be 100 plus degrees and awful humidity and also 33 and snowing in the winter.
I've dedicated myself to physical and mental health. I have a dad who is going to need me to assist at some point, and I have to be at 200 percent to do that. Something else may take me down, but I'll be damned if its alcohol and drugs.
I got a full-time position starting on Monday. I was very adamant that the schedule had to be the correct times and days to fit the therapy I'm currently doing. I do have to make a bit of a longer commute, but the pros out weighed the cons at this point in time, so I took it. Now, my assignment is that I have to fight like hell to keep the job and not lose this one yet again.
The meds I am on seem to helping along with the structured routine I've been on since not having a position. I haven't broken that routine and I continue to build and build. Every day seems to get a little better with more self-esteem and having some faith that I can do this.
I feel more clear-headed and more focused and the fog has slowly lifted. Hope everyone has a great weekend !

Kaily, I used to have such horrible dreams, (still do occasionally) some which drink was involved. I seemed to have no conscience or consideration. Used to stay with me all day when I had those sort of dreams.
In the past I had a dream journal. I’d write down as much detail that I could remember. It seemed to help getting it out of my head and on paper.
Would writing your dreams down, for only you to see, help, perhaps?

Morning Weekenders.
Great post AthensDawgs. Best of luck with the new job. It’s a great attitude that comes across in your post. I must admit that for a short while when you first started posting on SR, I thought that you were in Greece.
Kaily, I’m sorry about the bad dreams and I hope they subside. I have been having very strange dreams myself lately, most recently of being kidnapped.
Red, I’m sure you will be able to make it through the weekend get together.

Morning Mags,
I'm IN please for another sober one!
I passed a nice lady walking two Jack Russells in the park on the seafront on Wednesday evening. As I walked by she called 'Alfie' to the older of the two and for a moment I thought 'surely not' :-)
Anyway, warm wishes to all. On with my work this morning then hopefully I can relax a bit. Only possible in sobriety! Forwards.

Afternoon Weekenders, Something called 'Stoptober' begins tomorrow. It began as an NHS initiative on smoking but has expanded to include booze and other addictions. Unlike Dry January it is aimed at stopping permanently rather than one month. I expect there might be a few Brits out tonight intending it to be their last night on the lash. If you are, you are very welcome here. The way we are going, most Brits won't be able to afford to eat soon let alone drink.
Sorry you're having bad dreams Kaily, I can only suggest reading something upbeat or amusing before lights out. P G Wodehouse is good for that.
Congratulations on the therapy and new job AthensDawg- good luck.

Sharing this from Earth Prayers thread for all of us who love the moon. Hope you like it as much as I do.

If the moon came out only once a month
people would appreciate it more. They’d mark it
in their datebooks, take a walk by moonlight, notice
how their bedroom window framed its silver smile.
And if the moon came out just once a year,
it would be a holiday, with tinsel streamers
tied to lampposts, stores closing early
so no one has to work on lunar eve,
travelers rushing to get home by moon-night.
Folks would stay awake ’til dawn
to watch it turn transparent and slowly fade away.
And if the moon came out randomly,
the world would be on wide alert, never knowing
when it might appear, spotters scanning empty skies,
weathermen on TV giving odds—“a 10% chance
of moon tonight”—and when it suddenly began to rise,
everyone would cry “the moon is out,” crowds
would fill the streets, jostling and pointing,
night events would be canceled,
moon-closure signs posted on the doors.
And if the moon rose but once a century,
ascending luminous and lush on a long-awaited night,
all humans on the planet would gather
in huddled, whispering groups
to stare in awe, dazzled by its brilliance,
enchanted by its spell. Years later,
they would tell their children, “Yes, I saw it once.
Maybe you will live to see it too.”
But the moon is always with us,
an old familiar face, like the mantel clock,
so no one pays it much attention.
Tonight
why not go outside and gaze up in wonder,
as if you’d never seen it before,
as if it were a miracle,
as if you had been waiting
all your life.
