Step into the Weekend - Weekenders 05 - 08 August 2022
Count me in for a sober weekend!
Thanks Mags!
Welcome pennylane, welcome BritBird.
Good too see you Hawkeye.
SHOTGUN! (well no one else claimed it!)
For me, getting sober really did take actual, pysical effort. I was at a very low ebb, a full on alcoholic and I had tried REALLY hard to beat the cravings but always caved in - my longest sober stint was 49 days. I could not see a way of beating my addiction and thought I was going to be one of those people that didn't make it. Desperation, the realisation that it was actual do or die (within a few years at the most) forced me to decide that I would not face the cravings. I would not stay home and wrestle with them. Every morning I would get up at 5 -5:30 am and jog and every evening I went out and walked, whatever the weather - my quit date was 30th Dec (2014) It also meant I avoided another bugbear of early sobriety, insomnia. I would go to bed at 9pm and be asleep by about twenty past. The main thing though was that it worked.
The AV always chooses the best moments to strike but it is easily distracted by simply doing things. It was an unglamorous, low tech solution and quite a 'hard sell' if you were a modern advertising exec but it did work.
It has been a long time since I posted about the mechanics of my own sober journey, I should do it more often.
Here's a track I used to play on my headphones at that time. It builds slowly throughout and would give me the energy to get home.
Thanks Mags!

Long, but fantastic post, Sao. Thanks.
And thanks to our Magsnificent for another relevant topic. My day of decision/movement was a painful and desperate one but, in retrospect, one of the very best of days. I shudder to think of what would be (or the goodness that would not have been) without that day.
Welcome, BritBird and pennylane.
Onward through another Sober Weekend, friends. Together we go.

A recession, scarily high fuel bills, a heatwave, hosepipe bans. Yikes.
On a positive I used the weighing machine at the Dr's yesterday and my BMI is finally within range and my blood pressure was so low that my medication is being reduced.

Good news Kailey, hope you slept well Least.
I'm not watching much tv news or online news these days, it feels like watching an endless show of negativity. There's positive things out there too, a bit more being told would make our days a bit easier.

Good Morning Weekenders
Alpine, love it! ❤️
Kaily good news at the docs. hope the appointment went well for you.
My Asda grocery delivery is due before 8am. It just arrived.
My friend (of 58 years when we met as neighbours) and her hubby are coming over today. I went I topanuc mode. I never think my home is good enough for anyone, and give it a good cleaning and tidying up.
We’re going to lunch where they serve Gluten free meals too. (I really hope so, don’t want Mr. Mags I’ll for days) And going to pass our new home so they know where we’ll be when we move.
Love to all Weekenders xxxx

morning everyone.
I stopped watching the news a long time ago. I see the major headlines but most of the news is negative and basically a police blotter. I'm not a political person at all. I do vote but I simply don't get involved in any arguments nor do I talk about politics. I will however talk about sports and music all day.

I can't even tell you the last time I watched the news. We have not owned a TV in..uhm, I think it is 15 years not. Kind of lost track.
Mags, I am sure your house is beautiful and your friends are coming to see you...Not your house.

Penny I hope your visit with your mom goes well. Good to see you here.
Good to see my Morning Gratitude friend, BB, here too.
least I hope you got some sleep.
Kaily I love the treadmill doggie.
This weekend I will play some tennis, do some much needed yard work, and I vow to try to clean up the mess of paperwork on my dining table. I also hope to get rid of some unwanted and unneeded belongings by taking a load to the thrift store.
We are also having some dear old friends over for dinner. They are normies but don't drink when they come over. We both have vegetable gardens so there will be lots of healthy home grown food.
Hope everyone has a good sober weekend!
