It’s been 5 years to the day since I’ve had my last drop of alcohol. Checking in here to say thanks to this great community and serve as another example to the newcomers that it can be done. It took time and patience, but after 2ish years I felt that I was over the hump. In my first year I was maniacally focused on staying sober, but now I hardly think about it any longer.
What I do though is continue to read the harrowing stories from the Friends & Family section, to remind me where my drinking habit would have led me and how lucky I was to avoid such a close call.
To all those who want to stop or have just stopped: take heart, it can be done and it is totally worth it. But it will require work! Best of lucks and hugs for everybody!

Well done, Mac. You’re right the first year or two are still a battle. I was definitely semi-addicted to AF beer, but even that fizzled out luckily. Three and a half years on, it’s just the norm to not drink. Compared to where we were before, that’s good going. Credit all round 👍
