I have insomnia. I'm afraid of sleep, I know it's weird but I am. It's called somniphobia or something. This is the time of the day when I really, really need help and need to reach out to people but they are all asleep.

This will be the last time you will ever have to go through this. It is really hard but you can do this. In time, you are going to feel so much better. Way to go on going back to your meetings and for getting a sponsor. Post often here and as much as you need. Take all the support you can get.
It's 1:42 am in my part. Still can't sleep. One of the top things I "medicated" with alcohol was this. But I cannot ever drink or use any drugs again. It absolutely ruined me and caused immeasurable emotional torment. I'll just stay up a bit and play Nanogram. I will certainly make a point of emphasis to address this insomnia thing with my therapist.

I’m just over four months sober. It took a couple of months before I started feeling like I was getting some good sleep. Every night isn’t great however it is definitely better than when I was drinking. Alcohol is so disruptive in so many ways.

I had major sleep problems when I first quit and finally got something from my doctor to help me. I had a fear of getting in bed because I would just toss and turn. I'm still on milder medication because I have sleep problems in the best of times. Perhaps you can talk to your doctor?

A trick I've stumbled on lately came about from being an avid podcast consumer.
If I play the audio at a level where I can just make out the words , (there's a sweet spot right between not being able to make out the words and the conversation being intelligible) and I lay back and listen hard enough , actual attention paid to following along, just a skosh above passive listening I find that in not many more moments I start to have thoughts outside the scope of the conversation and then I'm out btw I listen to a lot of podcasts twice , first time for about 5-10 minutes and then the next in full , lol

You do not need to taper with alcohol. There are medicines to reduce withdrawal. See a Doctor - PLEASE. Up to 20% if people are problem drinkers - he/she won't be shocked in the slightest and are threre to help.
I tried tapering with smaller and smaller bottles of whiskey and it was excrutiating - and possibly dangerous. Please, please, please see a doctor.
