Best day
Best day
I had the best day today. Met with my sister and two cousins, also sisters, for lunch. We visited our childhood home, which has now been redeveloped and looks incongruous in the setting we remembered from our childhoods.
"The track" leading to the house is still there, and where I opened a tap as a 3 year old, which could not be stopped, and the fire brigade had to be called. They did that back then.
The secret pond is still there, where as kids, we were forbidden to go, yet still we did. The carp and the eels gliding beneath its scary depths. I think it was a billabong once, yet so close to city life now.
It was so good to laugh over lunch, and how easy it was to mention in passing my battle with the booze, which each and all were aware, yet let it pass, unremarkable, because they loved me still.
I am so glad to be sober.

Thanks Ican. I had a great day. We all went home, tired but happy.
I hope you are doing ok Ican, and pain is manageable.
So long as we're sober mate, all else will fall into place.
Don't fall tho.

Beautiful images and writing. Glad you had and shared a day of redemption and connection—
Sobriety does make what once seemed impossibley gone or damaged from the past whole and lovely in the present moment.
We are fixable creatures should we set our hearts on it, aren’t we Steely?

We surely are fixable, and should set our hearts on it Hawkeye, just as you say.
Never thought I could ever be fixed, thought my heart was broken. None of it was true. Just needed to stop drinking, and allow myself to Be. To learn, and to grow.
Best trip ever. Even when it sucked, because I was forced to learn further.
You shared in my happiness, and I love ewes all.

Hi Steely. (Had to google 'Billabong' - learned something. )
I loved the post - it made me happy this morning. Sounds like such a special time you had.
We should be able to revisit the past without becoming melancholy or finding it bittersweet. I'm working on that. Your post helped. Thank you!

Excellent post.
I was lucky enough to have a good childhood too.
Every now and then I will drive down the street I grew up on.
. Or past my Grandmother's farm.
Or go past the cottage we vacationed at on the finger lakes.
We called it "the shack". The roof leaked and there was no tub or shower, we washed in the lake with a bar of Ivory soap(because it floats)
I'm glad you had such a nice day!
