Day 13 … unbearable pain in shoulder
Dang it Ican. Sorry the pain is so significant. That really stinks. I hope the Dr. can help you resolve or at least decrease the pain. I am sure you are on top of this ..did you ask when you can start therapy for it? Ask him/her out pendulum exercises, it is an exercise I have done with many many patients over the years. Of course I had to get clearnce from the Dr. prior too since they knew the location of the break and how it was healing and if it was in good alignment..etc.
Hi Ican,
. Once in a blue moon I might sleep on my shoulder the wrong way.
And OMG! It's the worst.
So I can't imagine how it hurts.🙀
I know it's late in evening in UK now.
But hope you get a good night's sleep and feel a little better in the morning.😺

I'm so sorry Ican. You might need stronger painkiller. I hope your doctor can help.
Please don't drink Ican, for me the temptation would have been great in these early days. Never proven to be worth it tho.
Take care Ican. Don't concern yourself with anything outside of recovery.

I've been quite active over the years. I got into figure skating in my 20's, skiing in my 30's, cycling since I was a teenager but a lot more seriously in my 30's through 50's and strength training in my 20's which I still do. I've had my fair share of injuries. A broken ankle at 39 that's arthritic now (I'm 65), a couple of broken fingers, a couple of broken bones in my foot, bursitis in my hip from falling on it the same way too many times learning a skating move with my partner, and various strains and sprains and a few more that don't come to mind right now. And we can throw in a hip replacement a few years ago just for a little variety
I never had a problem with a shoulder until about six years ago when I strained my left one doing a bench press with a weight that I considered very safe for me. A couple of days later it felt fine, so I inured it again and it got ten times worse. About a month later I injured it again. Ya, I'm a glutton for punishment . All my previous injury experience gave me no idea what I was up against with this shoulder. It turned out my injury is common for older people and due to age related reduction in strength. It ended up taking me about two years to rehab it and it hurt more than anything I had ever experienced before. A few months into it I was getting frustrated because I wasn't seeing much progress and went to see my doctor. He checked me out and said 'Shoulders take time and you're not as young as you used to be. You're doing great, keep doing what you're doing.' It will never become strong (young) again but now it's strong enough so I don't have to worry about sudden injury like the first time as long as I don't put too much force on it. It doesn't interfere with my life anymore and it never hurts.
My shoulder injury was due to age, yours is from an injury so my bet is your outcome will be a strong shoulder and it won't take nearly as long as mine did. But it will likely take longer than you think and it will hurt more than you expect as it heals. Last week I injured my right shoulder the same way I did my left six years ago. The good thing is I now know what the issue is and what to do. I ice it a few times a day, I do very gentle rotator cuff exercises three times a day and I stretch it hourly. It's a very minor injury right now and it only hurts occasionally. But sometimes it hurts badly enough so I can't lift my arm because of the pain. So I ice it again, stretch it gently, move it around, walk a bit and the pain is mostly gone. Until it comes back . It's just weird ! , but I've learned this is normal for shoulders.
I'm not trying to discourage you Ican, just want to share my experience. If I had known this stuff I wouldn't have struggled so much the first time. Give it lots of time, take it easy and once you get exercises, do them. You've got this!
Yeah, shoulder joints are complex. I got "frozen shoulder" once, when I was about 50 and had been showing off my throwing arm.. it came on slowly, and I couldn't reach up at all for a few months - rehab slowly fixed it. Take care of that Ican, so sorry you're in pain.
Colin, I hear you brother - I've done a lot of damage too, especially to my knees, from decades of running, but also motorcycle and bicycle accidents - usually when inebriated, lol - quite a few broken bones. The only thing that keeps me walking is the regular cycling at this point, haha.

I feel for you, man! I've been on work comp now for 14 months from destroying my shoulder back in March of last year. The pain was incredible, and after the surgery it was even worse for a week! I hope the docs get you fixed up well.
