Hello Again

The 1000th time is the charm right?

I don't have too much to say I guess. Drinking has been out of control lately and just wanted to reach out to anyone who would listen.
Recently undergoing some major relationship stress and oddly enough I find myself wanting to drink LESS, not more.

Maybe I'm just getting tired of it all. I just turned 49. I'm getting too old for it and more importantly life is short.

I'm very sad at the moment. In fact I'm starting to realize I've been sad all my life. Looking seriously into therapy, which is a big step for me. I don't like asking for help or being told what to do lol.. I'm way too much of a "lone wolf" (aka isolated and hyper-independent). But I really need help.

I really don't know what's going to happen here. I'm very sad and I'd like to feel it instead of drowning it.

So I figured this post would be some sort of good start.

Hello again.

This is a great start- you can be free from alcohol and that will make tackling any other challenges so much more manageable. Welcome back!

Welcome- a very good start. Read, look over all the threads, join in- post.
Booze was a symptom of serious mental health issues I manage with my GP and psychologist.
For 2.5ish years I was in a program (I was very unwell/homeless/no support initially) and also had 2 alcoholrelated sessions with a counsellor.
Meetings also are part of my daily committment to recovery, as is SR.

I quit when I was 52, it was a good time to quit. 49 would have been better.

I hear you about being hyper-independent and thus being ambivalent about therapy. But think of the therapist as a coach -- not someone who will intrude upon your independence, but someone who can help you up your game.

49 is a great time to make the changes you want to make.
