20 hours sober

It feels like I'm finally coming out of some of the most brutal withdrawals I've had yet. Been in the ring with a gorilla all day. Now I feel some relief. Sleep might be ropey but by this point I feel it can't get worse than that, surely???

I'll soon have 24 hours, hopefully a bit of sleep and definitely a most merciless lesson about addiction having been taught to me.

Keep going Tetrax.

The physical stuff will abate, and then the good stuff begins. Life on life's terms, and happy for it to be so.

This can be the last of that sort of misery, Tetrax. Proud of you for your almost 24 hrs. That's a very big deal.

definitely a most merciless lesson about addiction having been taught to me.
That was my experience as well because that was the only way I was going to get the message about what alcohol was doing to me and they were getting more and more merciless every time. Scary to think what the next would have been! Don't want to know. Don't need to know. Don't have to know. Neither do you!! This can be the last for you as you move forward. Break the cycle and learn to live free!

So I'm on Day 2 and I actually slept pretty well! I woke up still with some anxiety but thankfully that has abated already. I'm gonna shower and brush my teeth for the first time in several days and then get some nice food for lunch.

Keep it up. You don't have to do this again.

Congrats to you for getting up and realizing what you need to do! Brush your teeth, take a shower, and get some delicious food. Then come up with a game plan on how you’re going to stay sober the rest of the day and begin day 3 with a clear mind. You can do this!

Excellent! So glad you've got yourself started on a roll.
That's how it's done. Just one moment at a time.

Congratulations on 24 hours! You may be over the worst of it, but you may still encounter some anxiety, sleeplessness, cravings etc... if/when you get those feelings, just ride it out, do whatever you need to do to not drink. Keep it up and keep posting!

Sounds good Tetrax

It's great that you got some sleep. It takes me at least a week until I get close to a real sleep. It also takes me about three days to get past the physical need for alcohol, the anxiety, bad cravings etc, before all that stuff gets better. Hang in there. You can do this!
