Hi Jimmymac and welcome. Good to hear you are not drinking anymore and a big congrats on day 2

You've found a great place for understanding and help on quitting drinking. It's sure helped me a lot. Sometimes just posting what I'm thinking about helps. Hang in there and post any time you feel the need. Hope your meeting goes well. All the best Jimmy!

Hi jimmymac. Welcome to SR. If you want to stay sober, dump the booze. Don't leave it in the trunk.

You are retired? Tell us what brings you here to SR. Is the "cova" something related to COVID?

I hope you and the kitty are ok and have a place to stay and that you can stay sober and healthy.

Congrats on Day 2!!!

Hi jimmy and welcome! Glad you joined us—good idea to dump the booze or it will stay on your mind and maybe tempt you. What’s your cat’s name?

I received my Big Book while in a 28 rehab stay back
in 1990. The beginning of my road of recovery, folks
there taught me about my addiction and handed me
the gift of hope to follow and live by each day I remained
sober.

There were and still are sooooo many before me that
learned how to remain sober themselves by following in
the footsteps laid down to follow to achieve continuous
sobriety.

They had what I wanted and thus listened, learned, absorbed
and applied that knowledge to my everyday life to achieve
continuous sobriety for 31 yrs now.

My big book, like theirs is worn and used. In early recovery
it was explained to me that all the answers were in that book
to help me remain sober. So, i read it, took it with me to big
book studies along with the step book to follow, underline and
understand it.

Staying and remaining sober takes willingness, openminded-
ness as well as honesty. It's not a race, but rather a journey
of change. Change within ourselves to become the best, healthiest
person we can be inside and out.

You can put the alcohol down for good and never pick
up again replacing it with all the tools and knowledge
of a recovery life to live by here on out.

In doing so, there will be many amazing gifts and blessings
waiting for you to enjoy and cherish for many sober yrs ahead
of you.

Welcome!

Let us know how the meeting went. Since you are retired I would recommend that you attend a meeting everyday for awhile.

I remember the awful struggles of day 2 sobriety. But life will get better if you stay sober. I used to count my sober time in hours. Unbelievably, I'm coming up on 12 years sober soon, so it can be done.

There was a many a times I'd say i'd do this and that,
said no more drinking. No more and promise never again
and yet, the insanity that comes with addiction is crazy.

I had to learn about responsibility.

To be responsible for my actions. To actually and honestly
do what I say i'm going. To step up to the plate and haul my
tush to those meetings whether i needed them or not.

I sat a many a meetings absorbing what i needed to hear.

If meetings arent available in your area due to restrictions,
then seek out other recovery options, like online meetings
or other recovery help just so that you are not alone trying
to figure out how to stay sober each day.

It is in not reaching out or asking for help that we try to
do it on our own and thus fail so many times.

Recovery lifelines and support is important.

It may not be easy at first but we keep doing the footwork,
necessary to help us get stronger in life and recovery.

I didnt get my 2 furbabies, until after I got sober
and realized that it takes responsibility in caring for
our pets that give us so much unconditional love
day in and day out.

Responsibility for our own recovery and responsibility
in life.

Hi Jimmy. I'm so glad you found us. We are a friendly group who will encourage you!

I like your attitude - you sound determined. I was older when I quit too. Remorse & regret have their place, but it's best to look forward to the life you have left.
I know you can do this - and we will help.

Hello to Tommy the cat - he'll be glad when he can stop worrying about you.

Hit as many meetings as you can.
I'm retired also and made the decision to quit over 2 years ago.
BEST decision I ever made!

Think you need a drink in the future post before you do. Someone will be here. They were here and still are here for me whenever I need them and I know we will do the same for you.

Good work jimmy on getting those first few sober days managed—I sweat like crazy the first few days and find lots of showers and clean sheets help me mentally. That and plenty of water to rehydrate.

Funny that Tommy checks on you—my cattle dog Stella would do the exactly same when I drank. Animals are loyal friends and I have woken more than once disoriented from drinking to feel Stella pressed up warm against my back which calmed me and let me know where I was.

Take care and keep posting. Did you dump that booze out of the trunk yet? If you haven’t, please consider it because it will keep a door open you are working har to shut for good. Hope you are getting some rest and eating some good food. Don’t you have all kinds of great cheap buffets and eats in Vegas? Maybe hit some of those when you feel better. . .
