Belly full of it?- Weekenders 18 - 21 March 2022

Belly full of it?

There wasn’t an ‘off’ switch when I drank. I drank until I stopped…usually comatose or blacked out!

Then I’d start again as soon as I could!

Along with this I tried to carry on a normal life, working and functioning best I could but I know the cracks were showing, still I tried to hide them!

Does this sound familiar to you?

Do you want to moderate, cut down and try to ‘control’ your drinking?

I know I did. I could stop for a while then thinking I’d got a handle on it, I’d drink again.

Almost straight back to where I was when I stopped. Heavy drinking, no off switch and getting deeper into an addiction without acknowledging the fact.

For me, I had to stop drinking because it had taken over my life, one was not enough and also one too many.

Stopping, contrary to my belief that my life would be forever boring and unhappy, was the best thing I did for myself and my family and friends.

My belly full of booze and addiction turned into a belly full of contentment and happiness.

Being sober was life changing for me.

Are you ready to commit? It is a challenge but a very worthy one.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)

End of Day 123.

Thought of the day: The only fear we should have is the fear of not trying hard enough.

Good night from Seattle!

Thanks Mags.

I try avoiding absolutes...'absolutely not, absolutely no sugar', etc. Moderation works better.
Except ABSOLUTELY EVER, NO CIRCUMSTANCES NO ALCOHOL.

Thanks Mags ~ I can totally relate! I'd make sure there was enough to drink so I wouldn't run out....every day.... then drink myself sick.....then drag myself to work with a hangover, in and out of the bathroom....It's exhausting just to think about!

Glad to be here with you all instead

Happy St Patrick's Day FF. Today used to be an excuse for me to get drunk. Now I'll celebrate St Patrick's Day sober.

calmself, congratulations on day 123. Or should that be 1-2-3...

It's a rather tenuous excuse to post a video of a great song!

Robbie, nice snappy video to start the day.

It seemed that with each serious attempt at moderating, I would slip a little deeper into the hole. I would manage two or three days without drinking and think that it was under control. Then limit myself to maybe three, thinking that it would be the new normal. The following day it would be game on, and would remain that way until the next failed attempt at moderating. It would play out that way countless times.

We used to hit a pub in town that would have green drink specials and someone playing bagpipes on St Patrick's day. As if I needed an excuse to go into town and drink alcohol.

Hi Weekenders,
Thanks Mags, I'm in for a sober weekend. It's so nice to not have that belly bloat in the morning.
Thanks for the peppy song, Robbie. Got me dancing around the kitchen!

I'm in!

St. Patrick's Day used to be a fine excuse to go out and get wasted, as if I needed one. In later years, I didn't really go out to the bars on St. Patrick's Day, though. It is a REALLY big deal in my town, and the bars get SO crowded. I hated all the crowds and noise. I preferred getting drunk at the bar when I could sit with my drinking buddies and solve the world's problems, LOL. Can't do that when it's elbow to elbow with "amateurs" who can't hold their liquor
At least, that's what us "regulars" at the bar used to say. Today, I'll dart into one of the restaurants, pick up corned beef and cabbage to take home, and enjoy a quiet evening at home. Much better than what I used to do. A belly full of good food is preferable to a belly full of nasty poisonous alcohol.

MLD, "amateurs " haha! I get that. I used to be a bit scornful of such folk as if I were a "pro". And look where it got me. I'm so happy to have a quiet Paddy's day at home with a friend.

I have never ever partied on St Paddy's day, but that is because I drank every day of the year. It wasn't a big deal for me.
Now, I appreciate the beauty of the day. Irish culture is so wonderful ~ rich and warm, and this is a special day.
As Leshar reminded me yesterday, it is a lucky day....a day when we believe in magic.

(Leshar didn't say the last part, that was me )

I have my final exam for my Grammar Lab (Copyediting) course today/tomorrow, and I am going to grab the luck of the Irish with both hands and hope for the best.

I hope it is a wonderful day for all of us! 💚💚💚

Hey, I am interested in finding out more about the Grammar Lab course. Are you planning on using that to do actual copyediting for money? I'm trying to figure out the next chapter of my life after I leave this cursed job (which I used to like), and I have always been interested in doing proofreading or editing.

Thanks Mags. I'm in! And I've been accepted, after passing all the checks, for somewhere really nice to live!

This was only possible in sobriety. Gratitude a plenty this afternoon!

Warm wishes to all. Forwards.
