You are still in here which means you want to get better. You CAN do this. Every day is a new opportunity to start afresh xx

Hi Mummy2 - It’s in the past now.

I don’t mean this in a harsh way at all, but first thing you need to think about today is what you ll do different this time. Something has to change for you to break the cycle, it’s 100% possible, many of us did it, you got this.

That’s the golden question for any drinker or ex-drinker. I don’t get cravings any more, well occasionally I do like all of us, but I’m sure that’d soon change if I had alcohol in the house. No middle ground, the alcohol has to go.

I'm not afraid to have it in the house. I just don't want it in the house. I had a friend who used to visit every year or so, and he needed beer in the fridge. I allowed it because of our friendship, and I had enough confidence in myself to let it be there, but it was one of those aggravations you put up with. He didn't care if I didn't drink with him, and I don't think he cared one bit whether I didn't want in the house. He just had to have his beer. Kind of like, "Ain't nobody gonna deprive a man like me of his beer." Now if it were the case whether I wasn't sure if could handle it, I'd have given him the boot. Kind of like, "Ain't nobody gonna **** with my recovery."

It's so hard to stop when you're deep in it- but the little victories are to be celebrated and seen as true steps forward- you can do this, Mummy- one day or hour or minute at a time- we are all here pulling for you.

You can do this, Mummy. I am almost 4 years sober but it took many relapses to finally drive home the fact that it was so not worth it. Even though I had some very uncomfortable moments in my early days the relapses were far worse. The difference between you and I was the fact that you have the courage to post after your relapse and get the support you deserve. I never posted, just sat on the sidelines feeling miserable.

Writing as you think is really helpful because you can go back and review later—it gives you data and a kind of accountability if you are honest and thorough about what happened and the steps you need to take to make it difficult to relapse in the same way again. I found I was repeating the same behaviors, patterns, and justifications over and over with only slight variations. It’s a great way to shut the door on those slippery reasons we find to drink.
