Any reason is a good reason…I hope

This might not be the best reason to quit drinking.

But I’m struggling right now. And so any reason is a good reason.

I began binge drinking at around age 35. Once or twice a month I would drink a bottle of wine (sometimes more). And pass out on the sofa. At home. Alone.

I’m 52 now. I’ve taken a year off from drinking here and there. My longest stint without drinking was 2.5 years. I noticed how much better I felt when I wasn’t drinking. But I not only felt better. I looked better too. My skin was better. My hair looked better. These might be superficial reasons not to drink. But it’s getting me through tonight. I’m vegan. I already have a low protein intake. Couple that with empty calories from wine…and you get a very unhealthy human.

Thanks for listening.

Great you are here

Clean a junk drawer. Pain your nails. Do a crossword. Play solitaire. Play a game on SR. Organize one bathroom drawer.

Look in the mirror and say, “I love myself”, 10 times, without laughing, grimacing, or breaking eye contact.

Count your nails.

Read relapse stories here.

Read long term sobversarry stories.

Feeling and looking better are great motivators for me.
Keep yourself busy and stay determined. You’re doing great!

Not drinking is the best way possible to take care of and love yourself. What better reason could there be? You deserve the best that you can do for you, because you are worth it!

Stick with it PL.
I too remember my first real try at being sober and i got to that moment when everything slotted into place and i just felt great.
I decided to have one drink to celebrate and as usual downhill from there. It was a long time before i felt like this again and im never going to let go of it this time. Stay strong and keep going.

Those are all great reasons to stay sober and healthy Peke. So many of the things you excel at and that motivate you are simply incompatible with drinking. Being a fit, young-looking, active, present, intelligent, healthy badass jock. None of those are possible drinking and at a certain point, they are gone forever unless we forge a sober life.
