Feels great to be sober

The weather here has been amazing. I texted my friends to let them know I was going for a walk if anyone wanted to join. One replied that after she gets the kids to school she’s going back to bed because she didn’t sleep well. I can’t help but think because she’s hungover. I did that SOOO many times. Of course she might not be, but just crossed my mind. I’m so grateful so be sober!

I hear ya Jillian. The gratitude I feel every day when I wake up now has really helped me stay focused. This is one of the easiest tools in the tool kit for me. And it's one not so little thing that helps make this path the best

It is a good feeling waking up without a hangover. As you alluded to, being sober also allows us to have more time with our lives. This enables us to accomplish many tasks which is important because we only have so much time on this earth.

For me, I know I have wasted too many nights and weekends drinking and using drugs. I'll be damned if I lose anymore of my life to that vicious cycle!

I've never woke up sober and wished I'd gotten hammered the night before!

What a great post, Jillian.

Even after 14 yrs. sober I still am grateful every day for having a clear head, no shakes, no wondering when my next drink will be, no regrets for what I might have said or done. Once I got past the initial feeling of missing out & worrying that life would never be fun again - I was so thankful for an ordinary day with no drama. Can't believe I ever thought drinking was an answer to anything.

I'm so glad you're doing well!

Hi Jillian,

Way to stay sober and enjoying life. You should be proud of how strong you have become. Keep taking it one day at a time. Keep reaching here for when you need help.

Enjoy your walk. Keep being strong.

Yes it is nice. I have been really trying but not hard enough for for years.

Today is day 3 again and am grateful I feel pretty good.

Congrats on a sober walk.

Sober mornings are the best!! I love that I wake up and don't have that foggy feeling of what did I do and what did I say! I don't miss any of it. My partner has been buying alcohol free wine. I find it a bad idea. It hit me when he tried to hand me a glass in a wine glass when I was on my AA online meeting! I thought you don't actually get it at all! I feel like if I said to him I can handle one glass now it will be fine he would go ok I will buy a bottle!! He definitely enabled me when I was drinking but then would say that he didnt. Its amazing how being sober actually opens your eyes to peoples true personalities. Its makes you evaluate your life and really think about you want.

Sorry to hi jack!! Got typing and just went blahhhhhh haha!!

I still love being sober on my 323rd day. I got a lovely board yesterday to put my AA coins in so its a daily reminder of how far I have come. It also shows how far I can go. It reminds me to take it a day at a time with the serenity prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, courage to accept the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Have a wonderful day all xx
