I think that the auto insurance equivalent to "written off" here in the states would be "totaled". Cool to learn the different terminology.

Cityboy, we use use "totalled" too. We (or at least some of my old friends and colleagues) used to use it as a term for drunk as well "so and so was totalled last night." There are almost countless words for that particular condition.

Spent the best part of the day trying to clear up an error message on my tax return. A trivial issue though compared to loosing your dad and drama with an old alcoholic friend. Hoping that tomorrow brings brighter skies.

Marty, I hope your friend can get sober. Sounds like he’s really in the throes of alcoholism. You did well to say no contact when he’s drunk.
