Need to get through tonight- please help

I took what I hope is my last drink this morning. I have to stop. I’ve been drinking everyday for months even after a stomach infection three months ago. I am afraid of withdrawal symptoms. I feel like I just woke up for the first time in 10-11 years and I don’t know what to do with myself. Please someone help me.

I don't know where you are, but can you call emergency services, like medics to take you to the hospital? Do get medical help if you start feeling bad. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. Get help.

Hi TK. I'm sorry you're feeling miserable, but very glad you intend to quit.
I drank for many years, & it is a strange feeling when we stop. Although there's an adjustment period, it feels wonderful to finally be free of it.
As least said, withdrawing on your own can be risky. Is it possible to involve your dr. in your plans?
I'm glad you found us - we're a friendly, supportive group who really understands what you're going through.

I am in NYC, no insurance right now. I always thought I’d taper off but something hit me deep in my heart today and I need to immediately stop drinking. It sounds so stupid. I left my job because I was drinking at work to relieve the anxiety of work. Breakfast lunch dinner just wine and mini bottles. This is the first time I don’t have a job or school to hide behind.

Hi and welcome back TK

Withdrawal is scary - if you're really concerned, you can go to the ER - insurance or no insurance.

No matter what you decide, we'll be here to help you through, every step of the way

Hi TK - the first few days can be rough when you stop and detox can be dangerous. Please call a doctor if you need it. They can help you get through it. But please make this your last drink. My guess is your body is telling you enough booze. We have all been through this and can help you too.

Welcome, TK. We are here for you now and will be with you during your journey towards sobriety and recovery.

Stay with us; keep posting. There are folks here from all over the world; you are not alone.

We have been where you are.

I echo what the others have said about seeking medical assistance if things get rough. In the meantime, stay hydrated with water; eat light meals; get some fresh air when you can; take a short walk; listen to soothing music; take deep, slow breaths; call a friend. Lean on us.

I was recently in your situation. I had relatively mild withdrawal symptoms. Hands a little shaky. Sweats. The worst part is the anxiety and insomnia. My apartment is filthy because I don't clean whatsoever when on a bender. Still surrounded by empty beer cans. My motivation and energy levels are returning to normal. I think I need a good deep sleep before I'm fully recovered. I know what you're going through. I'm just watching Netflix and passing the time now.

Update

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Last night i had sweats but that was all. Slept well for the first time in a long time. I was home by myself today and received some bad news. Kept thinking about wanting to come back here tonight and tell you all I made it the full day without a drink. Thank you for that motivation. Hope you all rest well tonight.
