Great 2002 doc about English footballer Tony Adams' addiction and recovery
Thanks for the link Tetrax. Yes, he was a great player but was a drunk throughout much of his career. There was a massive drinking culture in English football back then. Players would turn up for training at 9am and would be finished and going home at 2pm - and the likes of Tony Adams would go straight to the pub where they would sit and drink until the evening. I've seen it at first hand, one of my local pubs was frequented by players from a certain football club (I'm not naming names, but we're talking well known players, the football club owned a number of properties in my town where they would house new arrivals to the club) and they would drink until they were almost falling over. One player - who did admit to being an alcoholic later in his career - would even turn up at the pub before he went to training on the morning and would drive after sinking 3 or 4 pints. He would then come back to the pub later in the day. The player (now retired) did go to rehab and I believe he no longer drinks.
