Thumbs up Valentines Day Support thread 2022

I know that for some of our members Valentines Day is not particular a happy date on the calendar - for others its a day where the temptation to drink to celebrate may be strong....

Post here if you need support or need reminding that you're awesome

Lets make it a sober Valentines day

Twelve years of singledom for me and I’m not sure that will change now. I think I’m too set in my ways!
I used to worry about being alone, and I often wonder if I’d have drunk as much if another adult had been there……probably not to be fair.

But, I’m happy with my lot. I brought up three humans by myself without any help at all. So today I celebrate close family, good health, and independence 💪 💞💞

Bah! Humbug!
(just being silly)

I'm going to lift weights this morning, and when it warms up a little, I'm going for a hike in the woods. And then I'm not going to drink. Happy February 14th everyone. I'm looking forward to it.

It's pretty just another day to me now. I used to put a lot of stock into it, back when I was young and had needy expectations. I bought into the hype and commercialization. I hate that kids are pretty much required to hand out valentines at school. It's always fraught with so much emotion for the poor kids. I remember being absolutely devastated when "crushes" didn't give me "special" valentines, but just the same little cheap card as everyone else. My man friend and I agreed long ago not to make anything of this day. We go out to eat in passing recognition of it some years, but never on the actual day, and we don't exchange gifts or cards. I like it better this way.

To those who feel left out in some way today, remember that you can be your own valentine! Being on your own or going through a rough patch with a partner can really be challenging, but do something nice for yourself and think about your own self-worth. I know it's easier said than done, but be good to yourself and love yourself!

It's just another day to me, but this morning my meals on wheels delivery person left me a long stemmed rose with my meal. I was tickled and put it in a vase and now it's gracing my den with its presence and lovely scent. It's just another day but this one is special now due to one person's kind gesture.

This is my third Valentines Day sober and I view this night sort of like New Years Eve. Make some great food, light a fire, play some cribbage with my daughter, stay sober and stay OFF the roads. It is just after 4:30 in the afternoon here in Minnesota and we are in for the night.
