Unhappy Starting day four

Nervous and high anxiety. Blood pressure is scaring me. It is running around 140/95 and up to 145/99. On BP medicine but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm also taking 5mg of Valium a day also. It helps a lot with the anxiety.

You are doing the right thing in stopping pepi - maybe you see doctor about your BP if you are really worried.
Being sober will help hugely with BP and anxiety.
Keep going.

Hi Pepi, Welcome!

I moved your thread to this Forum where more people will see it.

Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns regarding your blood pressure? And, we do understand how hard this is, and we're here for you.

Hi Pepi! Congratulations on your Day 4. I'm so glad you've made the decision to get free.
Those first days are rough on us - I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Definitely ask your doc, but they’ll also say that drinking will help the BP. Remember that quitting alcohol is a stressful few weeks so your body is having a rough time now. It’ll be just a few weeks, though.

Sorry about the anxiety, but going into the weekend, give yourself a little pat on the back for four days. Your drinking will likely be adding to your BP and anxiety woes, so imagine how much better off you’ll be without it. Well done again.

Hi and welcome Pepi
I had high BP too - even after I quit drinking.

I saw my doctor and started on meds - is than an option for you?

Hi Pepsi, good job on day 4. My blood pressure remained elevated for 6 or 7 days when I stopped drinking. It might take a few days to come down but do see a doctor if you are concerned.

My BP is high and has been high even prior to drinking. If you are concerned call your Dr. Maybe the stress from stopping drinking and then seeing your high BP is causing it to go high? Just a thought. Take care and welcome to SR

Calling my doctor Monday. They have been switching my BP meds around for a while and nothing seems to be working for me. Lisinopril worked great but caused me a dry cough. Went on Lasarton and now Olmesarton (Spelling?) and they don't work worth a darn.

Congratulations on reaching day 4 Pepi. When I stopped drinking my blood pressure was elevated for a few days and like yourself I am on blood pressure medication. It took about 4 or 5 days after I stopped drinking to for my blood pressure to come down to a healthy level.

Hi Pepi, by all means see your doc on Monday, but bear in mind the added anxiety right now due to 4-5 days without alcohol. That anxiety will start to fade in 2 or 3 weeks. Try not to get too worked up. I’m obviously no doc, but the figures in your opening post are high but not to the extent you’d be calling 999/911. OK, medical “advice” is a no no on this forum, and rightly so, but try and relax and think how much better things will be once this nasty withdrawal passes - it is nasty, I thought I was ill when I first quit.

This is just me, but all my health problems disappeared after about 10 days off the booze. At 6 months now. Healthiest I've ever been in my adult life. BP 122/78, pulse 64. It was more like 150 over 95, pulse 95 when I was drinking. I've lost 37 pounds.

I have some sympathy for GPs. If a patient who drinks has high BP, the GP could advise them to stop drinking and see if their BP comes down (high BP can be genetic or have other causes so we mustn’t assume quitting alcohol is the great panacea), but hey we’ve all been drinkers here and know how hard quitting is. The GP will know that too. It’s quite a dilemma for them, and prescribing BP pills might be their only option. Whatever happens, though, quitting booze will help all sorts of health matters, but work with the GP.

BP could take a while to correct itself, no? Especially if it's not related to alcohol. I'd see a doctor for sure. I never once gave throught to my BP, only to mention fainting to my Dr a while ago and find out mine is low. Crazy how people's bodies react differently.
I hope you'll go get it checked out, hang in there
