My daily battle with sobriety.
Well done on 3 days new!
Give yourself time to clear your head, and I’m sure there will be many ways to deal with the pain (alcohol is amazing at giving us an illusion it s fixing something, but really it just blinds is from the problem).

Day 4 alcohol is out the door...been very buzzy, which helps a lot, Was just now able to break away to read and post something. This is the longest I have been without alcohol in years! I'm starting to feel like the "Little Engine That Could" lol. Thanks Steely and MrPL! This is the thing that makes such a big difference like SipplySue said "Everybody is so welcoming and friendly". I feel like I have a new family. I'm wiped out and done for the day but just had to say THANK YOU ALL!!! Be back tomorrow..........

Day 5 stayin alive. Woke up feeling a little down. Depression, pain and sickness wear me down at times but forward I go. I am blessed beyond what I deserve. I woke up this morning with this question on my mined, what do I have to lose by drinking? EVERYTHING! What do I have to gain by not drinking? EVERYTHING! Let that thought just linger for awhile..........

I could not stay sober till I completely submitted to the program of recovery set forth in Alcoholics Anonymous. On the most basic level, that breaks down into (1) regular A.A. meeting attendance, (2) on-going step-work, and (3) on-going service work. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat more about any of that.

Hi NewLife, sounds like you were a similar drinker to me in that you didn’t drink massive amounts, but you did drink quite a lot every day, and now you’ve become dependent on alcohol. You’re right to want to quit as drinking every day is very unhealthy as you know. It really is a case of just stopping and replacing that drinking with something else such as a new activity. The first battle is getting out the daily habit of buying/opening the cans or bottles as you’d done for years. Then, of course, your body’s going to complain as it’ll miss the alcohol. No way to sugar coat the fact that withdrawal isn’t a pleasant few weeks. You will start to lose the cravings in a few weeks. It’s a major upheaval to accept drinking again can’t happen. We’re addicts and will relapse if we try and moderate. But the secret is to have a better life - which you will have without drinking - and take steps to not relapse.
Well done for taking these first steps to a way better life.
