What I’ve become after booze - Weekenders 28 - 31 January 2022
Captain Haddock, those are lovely pictures. And love the penguins too.
Just fed Billie and took her out. It's cold tonight and we have a wind chill warning. I hope my strays use the shelters to stay protected from the cold and wind.

Hi PJ, Captain, Caramel and others….
When I lived in England, we had fish n chips on newspaper, mushy peas, and malt vinegar. It was yummy and fresh.
Nothing like it in the US, maybe on east coast or in Florida, but they doesn’t have cold water cod down there.
Thanks for the pics, they are lovely, and all the talk about fish and chips. 🐟🥔

I constantly feel sick, increased pulse, breathing , sweaty.....classic fight/flight response...
My logic tells me the feelings are a consequence of drinking...feeling 'bad' is justifiable punishment , as I am a bad person.
Told psychiatrist today and he thinks my thoughts , feelings, actions are positive, progressive, good.
I just have to have patience and wait it out.

Happy Monday, everyone.
Good to "see" all of you.
Daughter made it to New Jersey, but not on Saturday, as originally planned. The Nor' Easter cancelled almost all flights in and out of the airports along the coast, including La Guardia. So she left yesterday, and it was all smooth sailing. For her, anyway. I was really grateful to have the extra day with her. It made it a little easier to say farewell, but not much. I'm doing OK, mostly. It's just a big transition for both of us. This is different than when she was in college, living in the dorms 35 miles form home. This is a real, grown-up move. I'm happy for her, to be sure, but also, I will worry a lot more. At least for a while.
Work continues to be difficult. I think everyone is burned out and they are turning on each other. There is so much squabbling over petty things going on. I try to stay out of it, but sometimes, I have to be involved. There is real, serious infighting going on as well, which will directly affect me, and I might have to leave because of it. So be it. I'm on my last thread of patience.
Anyway, still grateful to be sober and living my best life yet.

PJ, I think your psychiatrist is right. When we experience those strong fight or flight reactions, there is change going on. And we can choose to make it a GOOD change, in a lot of cases. Wishing you peace.
When I was in England a LONG time ago, I was in the Liverpool area for most of the time. We definitely had mushy peas with our fish and chips and curry from the chippy around the corner. I wasn't a huge fan of the mushy peas, but I was only 12, so maybe I'd feel differently now.
Captain, I'd love to spend some time in Africa, and I'd have your country on the list of places to go. It looks so lovely.

Afternoon everyone and thanks for the comments on the photos.
Caramel, yes those waters are rough and “sharky”. Some beaches are demarcated as safe swimming spots and the popular beaches have “shark spotters” perched up on the cliffs high above the water, with binoculars and radios at the eady to warn the local lifesavers of any sharks making suspicious turns so they can order vacation of the water if needed. This should give some idea of the size of the sharks we’re talking about! For me, the most daunting thing is just about the freezing temparatures of the Atlantic ocean. At 13 degrees Celcius or so makes your bones ache in a matter of minutes!
Sao, I was waiting for someone to call the penguins by their popular name. I really don’t know how they earned it!

Hang in their PJ, I'm glad your psychiatrist thinks it's a positive thing. You have been sober for many years now so maybe it's something more recent than your old drinking years that is causing those feelings?
It's a big deal Marty but i'm sure your daughter will be fine. Good luck to her. Good luck to you at work.
LOL! They are funny little birds Captain. Capetown is definitely on my bucket list too one day.
