Exclamation To everyone in the USA!

I know this isn't recovery related, but Newcomers is a very highly trafficked forum, and I wanted as many members as possible to see this. Can you leave it here please?

To anyone in the US. The gov't website for (four) free at home covid tests is www.covidtests.gov It launched a day early. I just ordered mine. It took me a minute to do so. No money needed. Arrives in a week or two. You can enter your email address if you want to be notified of shipping times.

I ordered ours a little bit ago! Also, if you have health insurance they will reimburse you for any tests you buy after the 15th of January.

Yes, I read that they have to reimburse you for up to 8 tests per month. I don't know if the tests have to be a certain kind or not.

It also looks like the high quality N95 masks may be free at pharmacies around the country pretty soon too.

I read that this morning about the N95 masks. I wonder if it'll be first come, first served, or if you have to sign up to get one.

I just called my pharmacy and she knew nothing about the program. She said they might be shipped to pharmacies for the employees use. I corrected her and she said they hadn't heard anything about it. I will call next week and ask again. I would hope they'd be giving them away by a sign up to make sure each person just got one and didn't get lots to hoard or sell.

CVS & Walgreens are both to receive them - not sure what others will be.
(I've been wearing my cute, colorful cloth masks all along - time to make a change. )

Well if it's just those two in my town, I may as well forget about getting one cause they're both busy as hell and way behind the crush in testing and vaccines. I tried to get a test as CVS and gave up cause I'd have to go 10 miles to the next town over which is very inconvenient for me.

I'd like to get one but will continue to wear my new 3 ply cloth masks. They might not be as good as the N95 but they'll do for my few ventures out of the house.

Billie's been sleeping on her blankie since she peed at 1. She laid in my lap for a while and got some tummy rubs.

I only read a headline and a paragraph in the New York Times. It's in the works right now. I don't know when it will happen, and of course it's possible it could fall through, because of the political climate.

Least, until you can get one, double up on masks. But maybe not two 3 ply, that might be difficult.

Around here, many stores give away a simple 1 ply blue mask free to customers entering their store. I think that putting that over your 3 ply would help and give you a little extra piece of mind.

I wore one of my new N95 masks yesterday. Besides the greater filtration they provide, this one fit better than any of the cloth types I've been wearing, with no leakage around the edges and tight around my nose and chin. I suppose they all very in shape and size, so fit might be hit or miss. In the last couple weeks, a comparatively large number of people I know have tested positive. It appears, at least by my admittedly limited sample that this Omicron variety is much more contagious than the ones that came before.

I had a covid test on Tuesday that was fortunately negative. I think it's so important to be able to test.

I read that the N95 masks would be given three to each adult. Are they one-use disposable, or can they be used more than once?

I read there were about a million visitors to the tests.gov site on Tuesday. And as far as I know, the site didn't crash.

I bought a bunch off of Amazon. They are quite sturdy and I wear each one many times, but not consecutively, I rotate them. I keep a bunch in my car and might go a couple of weeks before I reuse one.
