In exactly 36 hours time I will be three years sober which seems like an achievement. I'll have to ruminate a bit and see if I can compose some suitable thoughts for the occasion. For those in any doubt, it keeps getting better :-)

I have huge amounts of work to do over the Xmas hols and they are nearly over as soon as they've begun... Oh well, best wishes to all as always. Forwards.
Massive congrats on your sober time. I'll be 3 years in a few months time (all going well)

In for the final time in 2021!
Thanks Mags and thanks for taking such great care of the thread throughout the year. I hope your wrist is getting better now.

Good to see you Supersonic, Scott.

All the best to your mum CBS!

Congratulations on approaching 3 years Forwards, epic.

It's great that you got to physically see some family members PJ, I am delighted for you.

The Cotswolds are definitely worth a visit from what I've seen of them CityBoy!

I was reminded on the Sober Bus thread that I am 7 years sober myself today. It is very rare that I even imagine drinking now. In the beginning I thought those cravings would never end, but they do.

Big year!

Had some ups and downs, physically and mentally

Ups

got married to a wonderful man, on top of a spiritual mountain
Hiked like you wouldn’t believe!
Improved my golf game with practice, determination, and lessons
two road trips across the country, saw family
retired!
let go of toxic people, some of them family
DECIDED, ABSOLUTELY, FOREVER, TO LIVE WITHOUT INGESTING ALCOHOL

Downs:

Some might argue there are no mistakes, including me. I take the negatives and see them as a gift to grow and learn.

ONWARD, 2022

Plans

Lots of travel, including around the world 🌎🌏🌍
Recovering, every single day (by the minute and hour if needed)
Keeping personal boundaries and promise,

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY PRACTICING GRATITUDE, SELF LOVE, CARE TO SELF AND OTHERS

Thanks Mags!

Hugs to PJ, CBS, and all others needing hugs, affirmation of their worth, and love. Sending to you now.

There is a crack in everything. That’s how the LIGHT gets in……🌞✨🌟☀️

Thanks V.

LOL I really did quit on the 30th not the 31st. I was so drunk/hungover that week I lost track of what day it was, I had agreed to drop my daughter and a couple of her friends of somewhere and it was only when I was listening to the radio that I found out I was a day early. I really was in a mess.

Welcome to Weekenders TackleTheFear and good luck. It is hard to begin with as I'm sure you are already aware but the hard yards don't last forever. Actually I think the hardest thing is not knowing when it will get easier - it's one of those invisible lines that you don't know you've crossed until a while after you have crossed it. That's how it was for me anyway.

Thx again V.

NK is coming over at 7 to feed Billie and take her out. Then he'll come back at 10 to take her out for her bedtime potty. So nice that he's doing what is difficult for me to do.

Welcome to weekenders TTF. Stick around and stay sober with us.

Day 47 is going well in snowy Seattle. My mock interview for behavioral questions went very well and the interviewer said my answers were very good. He gave me very good feedback as well. Next step is to book for another mock interview for the Technical section and start prepping up. Whew!

No AV so far though today is Thursday, my usual drinking day. If I hear, I am just going to ignore and let it buzz on. Stay strong, folks!

NK couldn't come over at 10 cause he had to watch his younger sister so I told him, no worries, and took her out myself. Something I wouldn't be able to do if I was drinking. I always think, in any situation, 'wouldn't it be so much worse if I were drinking?' Because I know that there's nothing so bad that a drink can't make it worse.

Here for another sober NYE. Home where I know I'm safe.

Hi TackleTheFear, welcome to Weekenders

Saou, 7 years is brilliant!

Free, good post and I love your accountability.

I’m at hospital this morning. I’ve got to travel to the hospital at my old hometown to see the consultant there. He stopped working at my local hospital in the midst of covid but I think he had something to do with my wrist surgery. Bit apprehensive what the doc will say. I’m loathe to go under the knife unless it improves my wrist mobility. We’ll see.

It gives me an opportunity to visit my step-mum and then my friend also.

Love to all xxxx

Mags, that puts me in mind of one of Emily Dickinson's lovely poems:

Surgeons must be very careful
When they take the knife
Underneath their fine incisions
Stirs the culprit - Life!

I love Emily Dickinson's poetry. Her verse is so succinctly witty.

No, there's no sense in another surgery if it can't guarantee better mobility.

Have a good visit with step mum and your friend.

In my humble opinion, Emily Dickinson is one of this country's best poets. She wrote thousands of short poems on all sorts of subjects. She had a unique and lovely writing style and perspective. Yes, do google her. She has some cool poems.
