Day 6 - Great improvements !
Woke up still feeling sorry for myself but then got a text from my neighbour in the flat opposite saying he had Covid… so in a bizarre ‘well there’s someone worse off than me and I need to help them ‘ kind of way, I made sure he was Ok (from a distance and by text) and in doing so felt I had a purpose in life (just kidding - but actually not really)… this spurred me on to do a massive clean up of my own flat and make everything look nice so I have no excuse about not working tomorrow (I have a huge amount of things to get done by new year). Fixed my hair, bought some new moisturiser and I’m ready to hit the ground running again but ever ever vigilant and no turning back. My biggest trigger as you know is my son. His father can’t track him down and I don’t really know where he is … I spent all night worrying that he may be in hospital with Covid which is super super unlikely as he is young, healthy and has had at least two jabs. I am an epidemiologist so I KNOW this to be true. Looked at a few graphs for current rates, hospital admissions by age etc in London and decided it was out of the question and that I was catastrophising . So mindfully got myself back in the moment and felt immediately better. So I think I’ve made great strides today actually and am patting myself on the back ! :-)

Nice to see a more positive post, ICDT. I’m sure when we have stuff to do, our minds get distracted from the negative stuff (and drinking).
I haven’t read any news at all for days. I went shopping today (also England) and everyone in the mall was wearing masks. I followed suit as maybe that’s a new ruling. I really don’t know. I’m way older than your son (52), and I’m really not overly concerned about Covid. I take precautions as I wouldn’t like to infect someone more vulnerable, but the reality is I’m far more likely to be hospitalised from a car crash or a coronary whilst out running. OK, you’ll worry as a mother regardless, but if it’s causing a lot of anxiety, maybe speak to your GP?

I’m worried about Covid in my professional capacity as an epidemiologist and public health specialist …. But let’s not get into that ..thanks for appreciating my new found positivity ! I’m rather chuffed !
I think you are thinking in all the right ways!
Helping your neighbor does give a sense of purpose and he does need the help. Even if its a text or call or wave from a window. Quarantine is very hard on people. The virus shows itself in so many different ways and hopefully he has mild symptoms.
Your son..... I get it. Your love for him is unconditional.
You will know if anything happens to him. I firmly believe you will know. For now, it sounds like you are taking care of yourself and that is the healthiest thing you can do!

Great stuff Ican!
In the end we can only be kind and compassionate to ourselves. Then, in some wild and wonderful way this will flow to those around us, and those we love. The lioness cares for her cubs, but she also teaches good manners and respect. This is the way of the jungle, and a sober life, is what I believe. And also believe a coiffed epidemiologist has got the makings.
Onwards, Ican!

An actual professional. Are you worried in the sense like me that there has been some all to familiar irregularities with this narrative?
