Hi John, and welcome to SR.
Stay on this healthy path for good and keep putting distance between you and the drink. We eventually run out of chances to quit on our own terms and it sounds like you are nearing that time with ever-escalating health problems? As you know having been in rehab and detox before, it just gets more difficult to stop each time. You are where you are now because you want to be. Keep it that way.
20+ days is amazing and you should feel good about that. Strong foundational days, like the bottom course of stone on the Great Pyramid of Giza.
44 is such a great age to quit. I would trade with you. I quit at 54 and I'm here to tell you that a variety of unpleasant damage takes place in those 10 years - some of it irreparable. I've run that experiment and I have the results, so there is no need for you to replicate it.

Thanks, Surrendered, I missed John’s age. Yes, 44 is a great age to quit. He mentioned dangling health issues. Not sure or asking what these are, but the standard stuff at 40+ such as blood pressure and weight gain can be reduced or even reversed totally. In November 2017, I remember taking my blood pressure one evening and it was 170 over something. A doc would’ve given me pills, but losing the weight and the booze brought this down to normal. A healthier lifestyle can cure so many problems.
John, It is great to meet you. When I found SR it meant everything - I was so relieved to no longer feel alone. Our family, friends, & co-workers just don't understand what we go through.
I'm so glad you made it out of a horrible time. It never has to happen again. Congrats on your 20+ days! Be proud.
Please do come back to waffle when the mood hits you.
