Jojo84 here, 12 days today!
Hi Jojo! Welcome!
I am just over three months in, so getting easier to surf the urges.
Distraction and re arranging my thinking work for me.
Chores, hobby, shower (water on the outside, water on the inside), realizing “I” control,my arms, hands, feet, legs, and mouth helps. Also I keep in the forefront “I don’t WANT to drink, I CHOOSE this”, not that I HAVE to.
Nobody HAS to do this.
We all want to be free. We can succeed.
Perhaps you can join the November 2021 class, most all of them quit in November.

Next Friday will be easier, Jojo, and then the Friday after that and so. I don’t envy you being in these first two or three weeks, but it’s the best thing you’ll ever do. I like free2beme’s advice to occupy your mind. I reckon those giving up drinking should throw their TV set out the window 🙂
Great job on 12 days Jojo. Those are strong foundational days to build on. I hope your weekend is ending well. Waking up Monday mornings not feeling like death warmed over is still one of my favorite parts of sobriety. Have a great week!!!

Cliché time, but there’s no bad time to quit. Get some sort of hobby or project to do over the festive break. Whilst everyone else is watching boring TV and drinking, you can be doing other things.
I don’t think it’s possible to quit without changing a few other things too.

Jojo, you can quit at Christmas. I really don't miss it now at all. It's just a sad sick thing to do - at least the way I drank. It wasn't one drink on holidays, it was like you said - every day.
Keep it going and on January 2 you'll be so proud of yourself.

My schedule is shuffling around a bit now but I still look forward to Friday. I don't have to rush off to work the next morning. I will find something better to do then sit around all drunk and stupid. I've been working really hard during the weekdays so even time to do nothing sounds good right now.
