Nine Years Sober!
I meant to ask. Not in any way detracting from 9 great years, and we all know (hopefully) that complacency is the ex-drinker’s downfall, but has sobriety become the norm now? I’m sure if I get to 9 years (and after nearly 1/3 of the way there, no reason why not), I’d probably consider drinking as something I used to do. My own cravings have vanished in recent months, not to say they won’t surface, and I’m always curious how a longer-term person feels.
One thing I can say though is that I have structured my life in such a way that alcohol doesn't fit anymore. That's not something that's easy to describe in simple terms but if I can do so I'll say that it's not in the menu of actions available to me.
Thanks for all of you that have commented, or even just interacted with me over the last nine years of this journey.
to answer hodd's question - i never get cravings anymore. once in a while i'll think, i used to drink my way thru - whatever but then i get a feeling of revulsion at my former behaviors and attitudes. i go months without so much as a thought of drinking. it's my new normal and i'm perfectly happy that way.
MoS, i have an appt monday with the pain doctor (the one who did the caudal block yesterday) and am going to ask him if i need a second one.
