Wow! October 2012 if my maths is correct!
I’d just returned to the UK after 6 years abroad. I managed to get fired from a job after six weeks! I didn’t really have much money and was wishing I’d stayed abroad. Seems a long long time ago. I wished I’d quit then, but I spent another five years as a heavy drinker (and a further year cutting down before finally quitting). Bit annoying to lose those years, but like MoS I’ve seen the light now.

Mind you, the maths for my own journey makes no sense. I said after 2012, I drank for five years more. I’m sure I missed a year somewhere, but I’m sure MoS is spot on with 9 years 👍🙂

I meant to ask. Not in any way detracting from 9 great years, and we all know (hopefully) that complacency is the ex-drinker’s downfall, but has sobriety become the norm now? I’m sure if I get to 9 years (and after nearly 1/3 of the way there, no reason why not), I’d probably consider drinking as something I used to do. My own cravings have vanished in recent months, not to say they won’t surface, and I’m always curious how a longer-term person feels.
