So I’m tapering off
Some have suggested that’s very hard, but I know I can do it. Something I’m realising this evening is how my needs are not being met.
Maslows hierarchy of needs “Love/Belonging”
Its really painful and in the past no doubt I would drink it away.

You said three beers a night. Tapering from that (when I quit, I just stopped cold turkey from 4 cans a night, but medical experts seem to say this isn’t the best way) will take a week, maybe two. Then it has to be zero. Are you planning to quit?
well thats all folks
Posted 09-21-2011 at 04:03 PM by LeadHatterim going controlled drinkingon the one hand for sure i couldnt manage to stay sober but im only 32 and i think 8 months and 19 days shows some strength of character.
Yes, a lot of have issues and situations that underly our drinking, mine was primarily anxiety and in the end my drinking made it worse.
You have been talking about tapering for several days now, do you have a prescribed schedule or a planned date to quit completely? A few days ago you said you were only having 3 a day, and then you also said you were cutting back to 3 today ( friday ). To me that sounds like you are still just drinking - albeit maybe less, but it's still daily drinking.

I am tapering off yes
I am tapering off yes and I am reducing my daily consumption. Today which is a Friday night I’ve been drinking maybe ten pints the last two weeks so only having three is a small win anyhow
Since you ask I binged more than ten pints on Sunday and Monday this week. Tuesday I drank four pints and Wednesday Thursday and Friday I drank three. My intention is to have three tomorrow (sat) then switch to two on Sunday.
I’ve used tapering before with some success. I don’t feel the need to publish a full tapering plan at this point. Nor do I see the need to look too far into the future. Yes my intention is to get to zero but slow tapering gets my body and mind used to the idea.

How is it going? I tapered also for about 20 years - I just couldn't do it - I ended up swopping Cider for Vodka, Vodka for Beer and then Beer for Wine - I thought it was progress - it was in fact just deluded. But I hope you have a better plan than I did.

If you think you can your right.
If you think you cannot you are also right.
The power of the mind is awesome.
I think youve got this! Your in my thoughts to do this.

Thanks everyone
Thanks everyone. Dee and fox it’s going fine. Been tapering off since Tuesday so drinking a lot less than usual. I feel confident I can successfully taper off to zero but im not looking too far ahead.
Bit fresher this morning than I usually am on a Saturday. I was going to go down to two pints on Sunday but I may do it a day early today.
My life still has many problems but I hope being alcohol free will help me face it all. Idk if you agree but I think alcohol made me lazy.

Just speaking for myself, no kind of management was ever going to work. I tried for so long to control my drinking in various ways. The result was failure every single time. I had to finally just put it down, along with any notion of managing my drinking.
Have to agree with bim. I‘m another who could taper successfully, but no more than 3 to 4 days for me, else I‘d feel I‘m leaning more towards moderation, and they are not one and the same thing. Everyone‘s different and I’m just referring to myself, but I doubt that I would need to taper from 2 or 3 pints a night.
So your plan is to keep drinking three or maybe two on Sunday?
When is your Ultimate Quit Date? It does sound like you want to just keep up a certain level of drinking.
Three pints a day is considered too much alcohol by UK NHS.

I don’t have a quit date but will definitely drop to two pints on Sunday. Have a little faith.
IMO tapering off (which I’m doing) is very different to controlled drinking.
One day at a time.
